Besides more bow ties, tuxes and numbers on the wrestler's "jersey,(did the wrestling and bb teams share uniforms?)" I think we should re-institute the "Queen of the Tournament." grin

For the most part the wrestlers in the video are not real physical specimens; most look like guys off the street. Some look mal-nourished. It is hard for most of us to imagine just how tough many had it during the depression.

@ 12:34 was a close call; IMO a good call as it is better to err on the side of safety.

Locking hands while on top was legal.

Very interesting. Lots of grappling, not a lot of technique by todays' standards. Did not even see the simplest of all moves--the half. Especially like the uniforms--were they wrestling in their Jockey briefs?

Someone posted that they were not physical specimans. Need to go look at some old pictures of folks from those day---everybody was 15-25% smaller than today. Even look at the refs. How many of today's refs could fit into a pair of pants with a 24 or 25 inch waist (my dad was 6"1 160 lbs and never wore bigger than a 26--same with his brothers, cousins and uncles. The Depression with hard times and hard weork back then. Also, those skinny guys fought and won WW II--some of those wrestlers on the tape probably made the ultimate sacrifice.

Bill, was not disparaging, was making a comparative observation. . .most of them were not "built" as today's athletes are and you are spot on about the technique. Today's elite athletes are superior both physically and technically compared to those of the 1930's.

What I wrote was:

"For the most part the wrestlers in the video are not real physical specimens; most look like guys off the street. Some look mal-nourished. It is hard for most of us to imagine just how tough many had it during the depression."

Understand. No arguement. We, me and my siblings included, have "grown" with the times, but not always as good physical specimans. Too much to eat, eating the wrong things, too much TV, to much video games, not enough exercise. Same for many of todays ex-HS wrestlers. My son, a 119 to 130 pounder 12 years later now pushes 180, his buds show that much or more relative "growth". Very many of the people from the 1930s stayed at or close to the same stature as they aged. Post WW II BIG MACs, sodas, etc. has changed America (ever notice how many people walk/drive around with a BIG Gulp--probably 2 or 3 2 a day).
