With the wrestling season upon us and tons of time to kill, I thought I would bring up a discussion as to who were some of the top 6u kids going into the year. Three I know of Keagan Young(46)-Leavenworth County Spartans; Daniel Gomez(46)-Hillsboro; and Dylan Mays(49) Purler.

We usually find that out at 8u state tournament. The heavier the 6u kid the more impressive if he places or wins 8u state. Just my opinion!

I like your thinking..wouldn't it be cool to have rankings for the kids divisions. I know a lot of discussion would go into who deserves what, but I think it'd be fun to see.

I think it would be pretty pointless to have rankings for kids this age. It is hard enough to rank high school kids accurately. I couldn't imagine trying to rank kids that are relatively new to the sport. Plus they are little kids, just let them wrestle and enjoy it. Jack Otero I would hit the like button on your reply if I could.

I came home in a bad mood, so I'll say what I've been biting my tongue about the last few days.......
Who gives a sh*t who the top 6u kids are? John Smith isn't offering any scholarships to 6u kids.
The question should be, are you and your coaches teaching your 6u kids the technique that will win them matches when they are in HS and beyond?
Don't make me make a list of kids that couldn't win a match at 6u, that went on to kick the dog sh*t out of the kids their age that were winning 6u and 8u state titles with a headlock......
There, I feel better.......

What? Teaching kids something other than the instant gratification that a lot seem to seek!!

look i wasn't trying to create a ranking system or anything. and no we're not teaching our kids to achieve instant gratification. we do teach our kids how to wrestle correctly and to have fun.
like i said originally in my post i was just trying to kill time and bring up something to shoot the sh*t with. not to "piss people off"

You asked who the "top 6U kids were". Is that not a ranking system?

I'd say it's a pretty good piss with the wind @ your back & way too much time to even think about it. Every dog has their day......but truly @ 6 & 8 .....they just need to learn to have FUN!
Just my.05.

I agree with in it to win it. Teach them the basics, but most of all they should have fun. If they are not having fun at the age of 5 & 6, I am guessing they will not be in the sport at the highschool level.

It's been my experience that kids love to wrestle; so yes, let them have fun without having to worry about winning or losing

I still think it would be fun to look at..stop taking everything so personal guys..it's just a what if. I'm sure we all respect the sport enough not to take the fun away from the kids.

I'm sure we all respect the sport enough not to take the fun away from the kids. I have been to enough tournaments to know that in the heat of battle, the best intentions are thrown out, and it becomes not fun. It's the Daddy's ego's that are hurt and not the kids, the kids just have to perform. With rankings, come bigger bruises to Daddy's ego's. Half of the 6U will not wrestle when they get to 10U. Question: Why rank a kid that won't even be wrestling in 4 years? Answer: Daddy's Ego.

That makes sense to me, so instead let's rank the daddy's ego j/k. Good luck to all the kansas kids this season, and if you are a dad with a bad attitude this season, just remember that your kid is still alive and well, and things could be a whole lot worst i.e. the familys going through the painful tragedy in Conn. God bless you all.

USAW did a marketing study recently and one item they approached was the retention of our members. Part of the results was the undeniable fact that we fail to capture the heart of ... the wrestlers Mommy!!
Mother's that have to put up with Daddy's over-inflated ego, who get dragged around the State for 7 am weigh-ins, who have to spend all day Saturday in an environment that is just short of chaotic ... sounds like fun to me!
We must change our approach if we want to retain our youngsters!!

I think I saw that Mays kid wrestle yesterday at Derby. He was handing it to a kid from 10 and under. How does a kid get on purler ultimate? Where is purler, kansas located? I couldn't find it in the map. I'd like to get my nephew some training there.
