This is how I see the team race going at Fredonia:

This looks like Fredonia's Regional Championship to lose, but the race for 2nd will be interesting between Caney Valley, Cherryvale, and Marion.

Big series of upsets in the quarterfinals of the heavyweight bracket. The number 2, 3, and 4 seeds were all pinned. Should be an interesting bracket on the second day.

Quarterfinal - Jake Green (Richmond Central Heights) 13-10 won by pin over #4 Quade McCoy (Eureka) 29-11 (Pin 0:22)

Quarterfinal - Daniel Couch (Burden Central) 15-14 won by pin over #3 Jordan Turner (Erie) 30-9 (Pin 4:59)

Quarterfinal - Billy Mersereau (Cherryvale) 26-11 won by pin over #2 Alec Smith (Burlington) 33-9 (Pin 5:01)

Zack Craige of Council Grove had a couple of upsets to make it to the finals as the 6th seed.

Quarterfinal - Zack Craige (Council Grove) 28-11 won in sudden victory - 1 over Paxton Noll (Howard West Elk) 26-10 (SV-1 6-4)

Craige scored the takedown in overtime on the edge of the mat with a side-by-side headlock to upset #3 seed Noll.

Semifinal - Zack Craige (Council Grove) 28-11 won by injury default over Cody Easterday (Leon-Bluestem) 29-8 (I-D 3:48)

Then in the semifinals he upset #2 seed Easterday via an unfortunate injury default. The match was scoreless in the second period when Craige was illegally slammed by Easterday on a double leg takedown attempt. Craige laid on the mat for quite some time and the emergency medical crew had to come and tend to him. Craige was finally able to leave the mat on his own power, though he looked a bit dazed.

It's too bad the match couldn't be wrestled out, but both wrestlers carried themselves very well after the outcome. My hat is off to Easterday for not throwing a fit and for checking in on the injured Craige. Good luck to both of these wrestlers.
