Ok smart ones....who can explain the rule about entering other age groups? EXAMPLE: 8U wrestling 12U or a 10U wrestling 14U. Of course we are talking about kids that actually have proved that they can make the jump and win.

At Ark City we have the tournament split so that 8U can wrestle 8U and 10U. 10U can wrestle 10U and 12U. 12U can wrestle 12U and 14U. I'm not going to let a 8U kid wrestle 12U or a 10U wrestle 14U. You pay to wrestle both divisions and good luck. It is split up so you don't have to worry about being called to two different mats at the same time.

A p.m. i received : Basically its up to the tournament director to put on the flyer "double dipping is NOT allowed". If the flyer "DOESN'T" say that its not allowed then it's allowed. But the rule doesn't say that a 10U can't wrestle a 14U bracket. It just says that a wrestler can only enter 2 age groups at a time. So according to Kansas rules a 10U can wrestle a 10U and 14U bracket the same day.

Not at our Tournament. I have never seen a 10U wrestler be able to wrestle competitively wrestle with 14U. I would be afraid the 10U would get hurt. Wrestling up one division is fine, wrestling up two is asking for trouble.

One of the first wrestlers I saw pull off the double dip wrestled U8 (placing 1st) in the morning and U10 (placing 2nd) in the second session. He has had an incredible high school career so far going 3rd, 1st and 1st at State. I wouldn't bet against him to win his 3rd this year.
I have also seen other wrestlers get extra matches in and wrestle a lot of tournaments (a whole heck of a lot of mat time) when they were young and have a lot of success. The sad part of this story is that they either didn't wrestle in high school or started but didn't finish. Burn out does happen, or maybe just life happens.

A high percentage of the burn outs are kids that were good at headlocks, chin whips, cow catchers.....early on but start getting beat later by kids that actually have learned some skills. compound that with dads frustration and the unwillingness to drive and spend the money now that his kid is loosing. All because some stupid coach taught the 6U kids how to headlock.

All because some stupid coach taught the 6U kids how to headlock. All good points. Don't forget excessive or constant weight cutting and a parent(s) who is (are) over the edge when it comes to driving a kid into the ground. There is a fine line between having a sincere desire for your wrestler having success and demanding that they have success. Once you cross over to demanding, you may just lose.

Multiple sports ...one right after another without a break. Football right into wrestling. And its easy to blame success on parents being over the edge. Some dads can't handle other kids being more successful then their kid so they just chalk it up to an overzealous dad. Some kids have it and some don't. The ones that don't "burn out". If my son/daughter want to wrestle 200 time a year that's fine. As long as they are having fun why not?
