This isn't folkstyle. As an AD, if you using track wrestling to register then you should prob at least open the matrix up on the preregistration so that we can see if anyone is going in a particular weight class / age group. No sense signing up if there isn't anyone to wrestle. Just shooting yourself in the foot in my opinion. If your doing FS/Greco your looking for competition in this state not running from it.

Most tournaments are using block wrestling so there is no way to know who you will be grouped with until everyone has weighed and been blocked. Kids should be grouped into, at most, two age groups and Cadets can bump to Juniors to get competition.

When your deadline for getting a tshirt which all little kids love was Tuesday at 10 you should have made the names available then. I know you lost quite a few enteries from down south because of this. At least with names people could have figured out who was close to their weight. Don't want to drive 5 hours and not even know if there will be anyone close to a kids weight. Hopefully you can use this for in the future. Good luck with the tourny

If everyone waited to see who was signed up before they decided to register, not one person would ever sign up.

My post above was not directed at any one particular tournament. It was intended to get the attention of the AD's and make them change their mentality. It does make a difference having some prior information as to what numbers are attending and some idea of what ages and weights. Notice I never asked for names just at least the matrix. Besides the buyer should have enough information to make a reasonable choice based on accurate and available information which the AD's can easily provide once registration is opened. Otherwise, to me it looks like they are fishing for entrants.
The whole block wrestling thing is also a bit of a stretch. We have age groups and weights for a reason. When you start moving kids around into upper age/weight groups you start looking at greater risks of injuries. Also your giving older wrestlers a distinct advantage in placement just so they will have some less experienced wrestler to wrestle. I've seen it happen time and again esp w/ inexperienced wrestlers in FS/Greco. Block wrestling is probably the single number one reason nobody wants to do FS/Greco outside of summer sports. The first FS/Greco meet I put my son in he was a 7th grader wrestling a HS Senior. It was not fair, but that was the only way he was going to wrestle that day. As a parent it is a very difficult choice to make for your kid just to get some mat time. Just to be fair my son did pin the HS kid once.
Will Cokely, your likely to get a chuckle out of this since you know who my son is but I think you get what I mean.
