I see that we will be going to Topeka for the next three years. Just out of curiosity, how much difference, financially speaking, is there between Wichita, Hays, and Topeka. It is a long drive from Liberal,KS to Topeka.

The financial packages by all three venues were not significantly different. Hays had an advantage, in that they were willing to commit all of the tournament revenues directly back into the FHSU wrestling program. However, concerns about the facility size and available lodging cost them many votes.

Wichita and Topeka have nearly identical facilities, but a strong presentation by the Topeka group, combined with misgivings about the Coliseum due to problems at past high school state championships there, resulted in Topeka winning the bid.

STATE HAPPY. ALL YOU EVER HAVE TO SAY ON HERE IS
NEGATIVE ABOUT TRAVEL AND MONEY, ETC. YOU CAN'T
HAVE EVERY TOURNAMENT IN YOUR BACKYARD. JUST OUT
OF CURIOSITY HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TOTALLY PLEASED
WITH ANY TOURNAMENT THAT YOU HAVE GONE TO. IF
SO PLEASE MENTION IT, SO YOU WILL HAVE RESPONDED
ON HERE IN A POSITIVE MANNER, AT LEAST ONCE.

With a relatively equal number of participants coming from all four districts it would be more convenient if the state tournament could be centrally located. It would also be a better situation for parents if hotels were not able to demand two night minimum stays and no cancellations. JD, if you find that to be negative then you must not have any common sense. Why don't you offer some ideas to promote or improve the sport and quit worrying about what I have to write. If you have read everything I have ever posted then you would have found some positive postings. If you feel like attacking me personally then send me a private email or call me. The forum is for information exchange not personal attacks. Only a coward with no meaningful information in their profile would personally attack a suggestion or question.

Did you say "With a relatively equal number of participants coming from all four districts it would be more convenient if the state tournament could be centrally located."

Nice one... what a joke... lol

If most of the people in the state of kansas reside in the eastern half of the state then the state tournament should be centered in the center of the states POPULATION.

Nice joke though

Travius,
Yes, there are more wrestlers in District 1 than any other district but by the time you get to state there will be an even number coming from each district as only 4 from each age and weight class make it to state. This balances the number of participants from each district. I read everything regarding redistricting and I am in total agreement to redistrict. However, that has nothing to do with making state more convenient by centrally locating it. That isn't a joke.

Just wondering... was the price gouging by the vendors at the Expo Center discussed with the Topeka folks? Otherwise we are happy with Topeka.

I will agree with Mike on that one unreal the prices of things there. $1.50 for a small cup of coffee among other things. Anyway mu comment on the location of state, Why cant it me moved around from the 4 districts that way every 4 years to comes back to that district, seams that there are large enough venues in all 4 districts, or atleast listening to some people talk there are large enough venues in all 4 ( I have yet to and never will) see a state site that is in agreement with all people so rotate it among those who bid for it in each district that way if say district 2 doesnt put a bid in then that district cant complain that its some where else.
