March 1, 2019 - Smyrna HS - Dover, Delaware
The National Collegiate Open saw four former Kansas wrestlers compete.
At 125 Cody Phippen, Basehor HS wrestled to a 5-1 record before running out of matches and forced into a 4th place for the US Air Force Academy Prep School.
At 133 Javon Parrish, Olathe North HS made his way to the finals where he would have faced a fellow Nebraska Cornhusker. Coach Eric Montoya thought is would be best to settle that match in the practice room. Javon had a great day.
At 165 Sammy Cokeley, St. James Academy HS recorded three pins and a tech fall on his way to the finals before running into red shirt from Stanford who was able to pick him apart. The Finger Lakes Frogman settled for 2nd place.
At 174 Clay Lautt, St. James Academy HS lost a nail biter at the buzzer in the semis before winning his last 2 and placing third wrestling for the NC Tar Heels.
Not a bad day for these former Kansas wrestlers!
