I have a 7th grader who is interested in wrestling, but he wears a continuous glucose monitor on his upper arm. He can't remove it to wrestle because they are too expensive. My thought is to just tape up his arm above the elbow so it won't get ripped out. Does anyone have a wrestler that wears one of these, and what do you do about it? Thanks!
I am a school nurse (and wrestling parent). I have had students that have worn their CGM device while wrestling. They will just need to leave it uncovered for weigh in/skin checks, and then they can cover with something protective so it won't get disturbed during a match. I have had students wear protective sleeves and have had some use coban style wrap. Both were effective--it kind of depended on preference of the athlete and the type of CGM. Athletic tape can leave a residue on the sensor and it would depend on the type of CGM your athlete uses (Libre, T-Slim etc) whether it could be used.
