Does anyone know of any studies that have been done to establish a standardized wrestling practice room?

To my knowledge, there is no "standardized wrestling practice room?"

There are requirements established by the National Federation of High Schools regarding wrestling mat size, maximum wrestling room temperature, and several other suggestions regarding sanitation and cleanliness of the mats and mat area.

The size of the room is dependant on the number of participants at a particular school and facilities availability. If there are consistently a large number of participants and a small practice facility, it is the responsibility of the administration at the school to provide appropriate and safe facilities.

Thanks guys, I am trying to find a way to express our needs to the administration. We are in the middle of a 17 million dollar building remodel which added one new gym with two practice courts for basketball, but they took 14 feet from the width of our practice area in order to make room for a trophy case and a ramp for handicap access. We are now not able to fit a whole mat in the area and have 30 kids out. Any way I have a few friends that are engineering students at K-State, Maybe I can get them to conduct an ergonomics study to help us and maybe help others in similar situations.

instead of begging to the administration for more room, you should create a power point presentation the presents the accolades of twinkies and oatmeal cream pies. Maybe instead of remodeling you guys could buy $17 million worth of twinkies. Not only would Twinkie not go bankrupt, but in the event of a nuclear holocost, you guys could feed all of Kansas till we rebuild. Of course Kansas would recover the quickest because of your generous food contributions. While every one else is weak and pekid, Kansas could rise up and take over the world. And I imagine with your strangle hold on consumables, you might be the new leader, unless of course the boacheth rise up and unseats you. But anyway....Go for the Twinkies.

To my knowledge there is no rules, either NFHS or KSHSAA that states a minimum size for a high school wrestling practice room. Obviously it is the responsibility of the school's administration and the USD's board to provide adaquate measures to insure the safety of the participants. For example mats for the walls so kids don't crack their head. Concordia's wrestling room only has like a 7 ft ceiling, you can actually touch it if you raise your hand up, and pillars right in the middle of the room, and yet they seem to survive.

Obviously if you are concerned for your safety or are just plain mad, the best thing to do is organize everyone you can for your cause and take it to the school board. But if your program isn't very successful I doubt you will have much luck.
