The statement about it being tougher to make the varsity in 5 or 6a because of the enrollment would seem to hold some credence. Using the same logic, you could take the enrollment of any one of the topmost 5 or 6 a schools and use it up in the 321a classification, and you would have a combination of Norton, St. Francis, and Oakley, with several students left over, and you would have a combination of wrestlers that would certainly be hard to beat! When you see what St. Francis is able to produce with an enrollment of 104 students, and see that the 5a/6a guys need several times that many students to produce a team that is anywhere near as good, you begin to see the value of tradition and competiion. Ark City is an example of a team that has created their own tradition, And some of the Kansas City and Wichita area teams have enhanced their competition level by wrestling summers in other states, which has brought them up a lot, but when you look at what quality some of the 321a schools have with no more student base and resouces that are available to them, You would think that the bigger schools would be way better, but they are not. Eventually the western schools will become too small to be a factor, but right now, yearin/year out , I would take an allstar team comprised of students from nw kansas against a similar Population base from anywhere else in the state and I think they would be superior. There are 11 schools that wrestle north of I-70 and on or west of 283. total enrollment of those schools is 1504, less than some 6a schools. take single area of Kansas totalling 1504 students, put together the best wrestlers from those schools, and I believe you would be hard pressed in any year to beat the best from that area. You can say that 5 or 6 a is better, but you are talking about the whole state vs. basically nw kansas.

Mike-
That would be alot of fun. I can't imagine what a powerhouse team that would be!

KSHSAA 3-2-1A 125 lb. Bracket!

If Peterson wins his first round match and gets past Spaeny in the Quarter-finals, barring a major upset, will have his much anticipated match with Tyler Baker from Hoxie in the Semi-finals.

I think that mr. Peterson probably wishes he had been less vocal about his future aspirations, but you still have to at least give him credit for setting a goal and going after it, he was a good wrestler just to be there, and if he fell a little short at least he was in the hunt, I think when a wrestler has no history to fall back on, sometimes you kinda have to make your own legacy. he was good enough to get there, just not quite good enough to finish. Win or lose, getting to state and competing is still quite an accomplishment.

I commend Jeff Peterson on accomplishing more than most at the state tournament. Yes, Jeff came on pretty strong on the net but put things in the proper context. I think quite likely because of his confidence, he was able to do what not very many people from Oskaloosa has ever done. He wasn't wrestling for some powerhouse team with tradition. He wrestles for a school where atheletics in general are very poor and only one other wrestler in school history ever placed at state. If he didn't understand how good some of the other kids were, it isn't his fault. In the world Jeff lives in, he doesn't see big time competition. The school struggles to compete at all.
I Really thionk Jeff accomplished more than most of the other kids at state this week given what he had to work with. He did win a medal and he was competing and wrestling hard in the semi-finals. There have been many pretty good wrestlers from great programs that have never done this. I am sure at Oskaloosa high school, Jeff is a big deal and I salute you for helping to start a tradition at your school.

As I was front and center for Peterson and Baker's semifinal match I couldn't help but think "Wow...this must really suck for Jeff." Peterson got pinned in the 3rd by Baker but was on his back most of the match. Tyler came out and got really rough with him. Then lurking on the backside was Dylan Lloyd, who is always rough. Then Olson took it to Peterson for 5th. Might be in wrestlers' best interests to not run their mouths...their opponents' thrive off it.

Holliday, I obviously thought he wrestled Baker much better than you did. He was on his back a few times but consistantly fought off. He competed hard. Maybe he did talk too much but what is Your EXCUSE?

How many fans would have paid much attention to the Baker-Peterson match if Jeff wouldn't have written on this board? I sure most of the Western Kansas folks would not have paid much attention to Baker pinning a kid from Oskie. Jeff probably wishes he would have done things differently but at least most people know his name.
Jeff should have figured out a way to profit from his statements. Maybe something like the Boz did when he said he was going to tear Elways head off, then sent people to Denver to sell T-shirts with his statement printed on the shirts. I heard he made more money off the shirts than he made for playing the game.
Jeff, best of luck in the future.

Let me ask which lacks more class? A high school kid too proud of himself or the adults who act like playground school kids compelled to try to rub his nose in it.

I would say the high school kid too proud of himself, but that's a tough call. He brought this all on himself
