While talking to Dean Roedel to settle a bet that I lost, Dean told me that he has 8 mill tape of the state tourney in 64 and many matches in 65 in his possession. I am going to try like crazy to get him to put all that stuff on DVD and sell it for the cost of the disk to anyone who is interested in that time period. I am very much interested and if some of you are too, let me know. He thought he had all the state finals matches of that era. I think it would be a blast to see that stuff if I can get it onto DVD. If anyone knows a really good place to have that done let me know please. Any takers on this besides me?

if you have not noticed most of the talk on this forum is about current wrestlers, not about 30 year old wrestlers back in the good old days.

If you dont like the post then dont reply to it. Nobody put a gun to your head and made you reply if you look it is for those interested in those tapes. I've had four calls tonight about them. None of us care what you like so feel free to like anything you want.

Tell you what, I will be at the State meet down on the floor behind the 4A and 5A mats. If you come down why don't you just tap me on the shoulder and explain the rules to me in person. I am not hard to find, just ask around there and I am sure someone can direct you to me. I am kind of a face to face guy anyway. I will enjoy getting all the rules laid out to me. No problem.

The only cost for them will be whatever it cost to cut the dvd. Coach just has them in his basement and didnt think anyone would want them. I will put you on a list and email when I find out.

You know what ksuf67, most of the talk on this forum is about avatars and haircuts that shouldn't be allowed at state. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, because I personally think it's pretty funny, but my point is you can post whatever you want on these forums about anything pertaining to wrestling. If you don't like this post then you don't have to reply to it. Some people do want these tapes, so thank you very much to Westfahl who is giving us the opportunity to get them.

My pleasure. If you would like to have one, my email is on my profile, just drop me a note and give me your email and I will email you when I find out the hows and whens of the deal. If you know of good places to have the DVD's burned I would appreciate the info thanks again. We have several places here in KC that I am going to contact next week. If anyone out there has any old film of any era, I would encourage you to let us know and we will try to put together as much as we can. It never hurts to save all the tape we can get because it is a part of a very rich history of wrestling in this state. I sure don't mean to insult anyone by doing it, that is not my intention for sure.

Actually, these tapes could be of benefit in many ways, especially in helping teach some of the younger kids some old school techniques, plus the invaluable opportunity to learn from some of the wrestlers of long ago.

Westfahl or whomever it may concern. I would love to get a copy of the 1967 or 1968 state wrestling tournament. I know its a long shot but I would love to find out if anyone would have a tape from those years. My dad,Ron Walker, wrestled heavyweight for Ulysses and was state champion back then. I've never seen him on tape wrestle. Any help you could give would be awesome.

lol I saw him wrestle live. I was a sophomore at Kinsley when we wrestled them and he was a weight up from me. He was a tough son of a gun. I will try to find that if I can. Email me with your information and I will put you on the list and give you a note when we have the material to burn on DVD. I am going to call Dean next week and get the ball rolling on it. Also you might ask around and see if there is any film floating around that we might be able to incorporate with what we have. The more the better. Just drop me a note so I have your email on my list.

You might not want to see him, he was a big wide mean dude. I can see him in my mind right now. Tell him hello for me and call Billy McGillvary and tell him I said hi too.

Westfahl.... I would like to buy a copy. Since I was a kid growing up in Atwood, all I ever heard about was the match between Jimmy McDougal from Atwood, and Stormy Johnson from Salina being the greatest match ever. It was either 64 or 65. Let me know if you find that.... I'd love to see it. McDougal went on to wrestle at K-State for Coach Knorr... he had a couple of matches with Dan Gable.
... the world will little note, nor long remember what we said here, but it should never forget what they did here...

Ray, I remember you when you were a little punkin lol. You grew up!! Dean said he thought he had 63 thru maybe 67 or 68 so hopefully they will be there. He said he had a whole bunch of stuff besides that so I won't know what all is there till we put it on a projector (if we can find one that still works). If we can't I am going to just have them burned as they are and then we can edit them later for years if we can. Hey send me your email address so I can add you to the list. Also if you think about it, call Jake Durham and tell him I sent you and ask him if he has any film of any years that we could maybe put on there. There is a bunch of interest so far maybe we can do something real special here if we work on it a bit. Thank you for your interest. Randy

I'll see if I can find something to throw out there. I think my uncles from Ulysses might have had some film. I do video editing as a part time job so if you need any help with this project, let me know.

Outstanding. I am looking for a company to burn them right now so if you hear of anyone let me know I am searching. If they have any film we can sure put it in. If they have 67 thru 70 of their matches with Kinsley I will buy you a steak

I work with another guy on projects, he has the equipment to put vhs onto DVD. I don't think he can convert the old reel films onto DVD though. If you can get it to me on VHS, I'll do it. It cost me about $40 each DVD, which your not going to beat anywhere. I mostly do editng for wrestling highlight videos/weddings/funerals. He then puts those onto DVD for me.

My uncles wrestled about that time by the way. They were Joe Witt and Mark Faulkner. I'll check with them on any tapes.
