Catoosa is considering opening a Division 6 for Highschool wrestlers. I am wondering how many Kansas wrestlers would be interested in coming to the tournament on Friday November 11th. Broken Arrow has a High School/Junior High tournament on Saturday November 12th.

This is a great tournament and if it is on the date mentioned I know we could be there as well as other Kansas wrestlers since High School Practice has not opened yet. In the past I know that we have had as hard a bracket here as at many "National" level tournaments. This will also get some Division 5 wrestlers like Nathan. It would be great to see some of these kids rekindle old times, Hugen, Flick, Jacquez, Goree, Furches, Slyter and the list could go on and on. You may also want to post this on the high school forum.

I must also say something here. As a father I am pleased that people think my son is a good wrestler. My desire is that he is even more so a good kid. How good is this tournament? Nathan has never won it, he has been beaten by some of America's best there, among those the kids mentioned above, all from Oklahoma have beaten him. If you want an easy trophy, go to another tournament, if you want to see how good you really are, this is as tough a local tournament that is within driving distance around. I know I will be looking at going down for that Friday night tournament and then enter the Broken Aarow tournament the next day. I have enough friends in the Tulsa area that I will be able to find someplace for those going with me to stay. For those that have asked for a Ben Morgan, Nathan Furches match-up, you could probably see it. Ben in my opinion is likely the best Jr. High Wrestler in the nation and I know that his dad Jack and coach Leo would work to have these two friends go at it if in nothing else an exhibition.

We have been to many national tournaments across the nation and beleive me Kansas wrestlers are as tough as any. We have wrestled Slyter and Furches for years and gone back and forth with them. This is why Kansas is the first state that we are personnaly inviting to a very competitive pre season tournament. Hopefully we can get Bishop Lynch and Oak Park to come down also.

Nothing personal, but a few Kansans will allow us Oklahomans to pick up a few more wins. Good luck Kansas in getting more than 10 high school wrestlers across the state line to wrestle.
It depends who you get to go down there to wrestle...every state has a few fishes, but then again every state has sharks. If Kansas counts points away from participating even though its prior to the season then forget about anybody coming in high school age.

As for Oklahoma being so dominant in everything, why do the top 3 college programs in that state get dominated in the starting line up by out of staters? :p

Mr. Furches

I am thinking of taking my son to the Catoosa tournament. I am not sure I understand how this tournament works. Is there wrestling both days for the Division VI? Is it one tournament or two different tournaments? What is division VI age group?

This is an age group for highschool wrestlers. It will be a very competitive division at this tournament. We will only wrestle D6 and D5 on Friday, so all of these kids can go to the Broken Arrow highschool/Junior High tournament on Saturday. Trust me if you want competition this is the tournament you want to be at early in the season.

I may be mistaken but am pretty sure that wrestling at this event will not affect any high school points due to the fact that it is a pre season tournament. I will say that for us, the competition is very tough there. The Oklahoma names I mentioned earlier are all kids that should be in the top 10- 15 nationally, and my personal belief is that Goree should be in the top 5 and that Morgan if he were in High School would be in the top 3 at his weight, even as an 8th grader. I truly believe that there could be many great kids that go down that may garnish a loss, that can win a state championship this year. When having the teams come in that they are, that is very likely.

I have been a firm believer for a long time that you don't run from competition, but you seek out the best where you can. I know that this tournament will have some of the best in 4 states there, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texas. I'm personally looking forward to the tournament to see old friends and see some top notch pre season competition.

Mr. Peters, I think that David answered your question. It is I believe 2 tournaments over 2 days, that will offer, very likely, some of the same tough, good kids.

Thanx I appreciate the replys. We will be in attendance as long as long as it does not conflict with our High School rules or Kansas High School rules. Where can I pick up some flyers for these two tournaments? I trust there will be two different weigh ins or will we be able to do one weigh in for both tournaments?

mustangcat,

I dont know what weight or who you are wanting to know about. Believe me it is going to be tough. From 103-119 you could possibly see Drew Partain, Matt Bryan, Shawn Thomas, Josh and Nick Haugen, Kyle and Chris Mears, Riley Adamson, Ben Morgan, Nathan Furchess, and Ryan Rosales. These are just the few that come off the top of my head. Most of these kids are only freshmen with the exception of 2 sophmores. I am sure their will be some tough junior and senior coming as well. Hope to see you their.
