Sounds like it got pretty rowdy between these two crowds over the weekend. We should've had a battle royal between the two. I even heard reports of WATER being tossed at each other. It's a good thing I wasn't there. Someone throws water at me and I'll go Ron Artest on ya! But that is beside the point. Anyone have any good stories from the feud between these two crowds?

I was sitting with some of the refs during the finals on the floor when one of those 2 teams started blasting air horns. The announcer came on and said they would be thrown out and the crowd from 4a down to 6a errupted in cheers, it was funny.

Goodland is still mad at Abilene because we beat them by 1 point to win state my sophmore year.

I remember that Nigel. That's when Austin Devoe blew the lead he had against Tovar, and that win put Abilene over the mark against them.

You bet Nigel. That is exactly what it is. I heard several Goodland fans yelling, "**** you Abilene, you beat us by a point when Nigel was a sophomore!" The Goodland fans even spelled sophomore correctly on their infamous "We will never forget Nigel's sophomore year" signs.

Just so everyone knows the **** was a four letter word, but it was not THE four letter word. The word I typed that was edited by the computer was the less appropriate spelling of the word Dam. Just wanted everyone to know that I'm not that vulgar.

Come on now Rick even you know I was joking about that. But in the unlikely situation that this event wasn't what upset them, maybe it was because of the year before we beat them by one point where they slightly edged Columbus for the state title, but Columbus was made so they rushed down to where the team pictures are taken for the program book the next year and told the guy they got first. So the next year in the state book, it showed the Columbus team as the Champions instead of Goodland! I would have been mad too.

I was joking too Nigel!!

Also, I was down on the floor most of the weekend, but it seemed to me that both towns had great crowds that gave their teams great support. I would say it appears that there are more hard feelings between the Clay Center and Abilene fans than between Goodland and Abilene.

The hard feelings probably stem from the Hwt debacle this year with Palmer showing up conveniently and not being cleared to wrestle the dual.

Nigel is wrong! It was Ulysses that jumped down there and got in the program after Goodland won in 1997. I got the program sitting right here in front of me. So it was no dirty Columbus trick, they know their role, that role usually being a 2nd or 3rd place team. Ulysses got 2nd in 1997 and ended up in the program. I remember in 1998 they even gave out inserts to the Goodland fans for them to put in over the Ulysses picture. I don't think Ulysses purposely tried to get in the program, because usually the 2nd and 3rd place teams get there picture taken as well. So I think it was just a case of bad editing for the program. There are loads of errors in the program each year. I remember one year Dustin Tovar even got listed as being from Mulvane for his state title picture.

Oops my bad I guess, I kept thinking it was Columbus that was in the picture that was 8 years ago though, and I never kept the program.

I've got no hard feelings against Clay Center, its a good rivalry, now Chapman on the other hand.....

There were errors this year like Bah instead on Bahe under his state champion picture. Another had the names of two of the champs mixed up. Last year they had the previous year's 215 bracket for 4A in the program. As my high school English teacher always said edit, edit, edit, then have someone else edit, edit, edit.

It was Abilene who had the air horns.

I wonder who from Abilene it was? I'll have to ask around and find out.

it was an abilene fan that threw water on my mom and she is 69 years old, because goodland was cheering against the abilene kids. that takes a big man to do that. what about abilenes heavy weight i want to know the story on him from what i heard he has not been in abilene for very long and the stories i heard sounds illegal to me. the actions of there wrestlers on the mat explains the actiions of there fans , doing fips on the mat after they win. by the way congrats to clay center on there championship they are a class team that reflects there class coaches , they go out and wrestle with no show boating and there fans are classy to. i wonder who paid the ref in the peterson vs. deeds match what a ***** call. PS. all you have to do is listen to what team gets the BOOS from other towns when there kid is wrestling and that would be ABILENE!!

Coach,

What exactly aren't you claiming about him being "illegal" He switched schools which is perfectly within a kids right to do. A majority of his family is in Abilene, his brother who I wrestled with was killed by a drunk driver last year, and if he wants to wrestle there that is his choice. He sat out the entire first half of the season as per KSHSAA rules which is why "he not been in abilene for very long" he was certified and legal through KSHSAA or he would not have been wrestling at all, trust me I know.

You claims of monetary compensation for the Peterson match are extremly stupid as well. You want to come on here and talk about class and so on and so forth, and here you are making libelous claims against two high school kids, yeah you are a real big man. And your mom got some water tossed on her? Big freakin deal, being from Abilene myself I know there are a few people that do some stupid things, but Abilene is not the only town with those type of people. And if getting a little wet from H20 is the worst possible thing to happen, then my god you'd better get away from the sport because I have seen things 10 times worse than that done and said from other towns in our state.

Don't stereotype and entire town and wreslting team just because of a few unruly fans, I can assure you whatever one team gives, the other team gives right back. If something was going on up in the stands it wasn't a one sided thing.
