Well since Hoxie has got what maybe 100 kids in the whole high school lets have the best 5a school take on the the best of Hoxie, Oakley, and St Francis. Maybe the best 6a could dual the NWKL League champs. Then the number of students would be close to the same. Now that would be interesting. All in all I think its getting harder for nw Kansas to put together great teams cause the numbers are too low. But they're putting out great individuals

Agree with no-no. It is a statistical certainty that a greater population yields the greater probability of exceptional talent. That schools such as Hoxie, Norton, St. Francis, Goodland, Colby, et.al. are able to go toe-to-toe with the "big boys" in whatever tournament they happen to be at is a statement about the coaching, tradition and interest in NWKS .

Wrestlers such as WSEWC need to come out west for an invitational tournament. They will never wrestle in front of as many people in their life except at the State tournament (but where the majority of the spectators are there to watch the 4A anyway).

Egg - I watched a big tournament "back east" last year that had 12 teams mostly 5a and 6a and we put more people in our gym for a double dual. You guys from the east really do need to ask to come out west at least once a year for the atmosphere of nwk wrestling. From what I hear the Norton/ St Francis duals of the 70's were the stuff of legends.

lets not loose what were getting at here, there is no doubt that if you combined the hoxie, norton, and sainty teams they would walk all over any team in the state. but the point is that even with just a fraction of the students the NW is still fairly dominant in inter-class action

I have heard many stories of the 70's Norton-St. Francis duals. There was a repeat in recent times when in '97 Sainty & Norton were ranked #1 & #2 in the state and were able to arrange an early January meeting at Norton. It was a full house--at least 1000 in attendance. Norton won the dual. In the Leoti regional that year Norton and Sainty tied for regional championship but Sainty got them at State--even though Norton had four individual champions and one runner-up. Every high school wrestler should have the oppprtunity to be part of this kind of excitement and intensity.

Egg:
That was a great Dual in '97! In one match Mack Martin from Norton had his opponent on his back towards the end of a period. The crowd was so loud that no one heard the buzzer!! The crowd was unbelievable, I am surprised the fire marshall didn't shut it down. There were people 5-6 deep in the lobby by the doors because there were no seats left!
I agree that all teams should come out to a good NW Kansas tourney to give their kids the experience of wrestling in front of a full house. It is an amazing feeling which all wrestlers deserve. Case in point: I was at the JOCO classic last night. I think there were 22 teams there, all from within 30 minutes away, and the stands were not even close to being full. You would think with that many local kids wrestling the turnout would be better!

If you really want to know the reason the east has become so good over the recent years is it's a natural migration that started in the early 80's. Have you ever heard of "Farm Aid" when the nasty old bankers started closing down the family farms poor and destitute farmers moved their families to the east to find work in the cities. With this came the powerful wrestling traditions of the west. Ask anybody I speak the truth...

Hmm, Meven's post is dated 6:36 AM.

Weigh-in was immediately before the bus left at 5:30 AM. Me thinks that someone other than Meven made that last post....

The only thing Junction City is good for is strip clubs, and only one of those is even fit for people not living in this hellhole to go to.

I missed you Lent Brane...
