I know this is the high school forum, but wanted everyone to know that Matt placed 2nd in the Big XII Tourny today by beating Teyon Ware from OU. Matt wrestles for Nebraska. This qualifies him for the Big Show in St. Louis in two weeks. Congrats.

I'm sure most people know this, but in case you don't....Teyon Ware is the returning NCAA Champ.

Mitch: Are you going to ST Louis??

Not only is Teyon Ware the defending NCAA Champion, he is also a four (4) time Oklahoma High School State Champion, and multiple time ASICS-VAUGHN Champion in freestyle wrestling, and USA Wrestling All-American.

Teyon has a style that if you are a fan of defensive wrestling you'll love, he's more of a counter wrestler, and not the biggest on attacking, although he has speed when necessary. I was hoping to see Roberson beat Johnny Thompson of OK State in the Big XII, but to no avail...maybe in St. Louis if they meet up.

Sweazy:

Teyon is NOT a counter wrestler. By all accounts, he is a master of the stall, the Oklahoma Sooner back step, etc.!

Teyon is cat quick, has tremendous balance, and incredible control of his hips.

Without question, if Teyon were to concentrate on his offense and takedowns, he likely would be undefeated.

Teyon is the only wrestler I have ever seen (several times) which I thought was quicker than Shawn Bunch.

Coach Beims, I know you're not much on bragging but Eric Luedke won Juco Nationals also. What an accomplishment for these to x Colby kids. You may have already said something about it somewhere but just thought I would add Erics Title. You Colby folks must be proud!

While we are bragging a little, I guess I'll point out that Eric's brother, Zach Luedke, placed 6th at Juco Nationals at 174 lbs. this year as well. We are very proud of these young men.

I'm going where no man has gone before on this forum.....I've got to agree with Mr. Salyer on this one. When I saw Teyon win the NCAA's last year, I couldn't believe how quick & explosive he was (especially when he had enough energy left to do 2 backflips --1 during and 1 after the match). For Murray's match to end in a 3-3 OT criteria victory, I'm assuming Matt must have rode him out for the final 30 seconds. Based on seeing Teyon in KC last year, I didn't think that was humanly possible. I hope Matt can get it done again in STL.

Congrats to Matt. He has worked his butt off for years. I tried to get my coaches at Northern to recruit him out of high school and junior college, but they didn't listen. Now they are paying for it. Good luck at nationals.

Matt is in the semifinals at the national tournament after he won a 3-3 2ot tiebreaker against nate gallick of iowa state. He will have a rematch with teyon ware tonight to decide if he will be in the finals. But, the win over gallick guarentees him to be an all american im pretty sure.

yep.....Matt can now do no worse than 6th place at this year's NCAAs. And to make it even more meaningful he is in one of the deepest weight classes in the tournament.

Congrats Matt - we're sure proud of you! Good luck the rest of the weekend.

Matt Murray NCAA finalist at 141 pounds.

Defeated defending champ Teyon Ware for the second time in two weeks to advance. Will take on Cliff Moore of Iowa tomorrow evening for the NCAA championship.

I heart you Matt. When you come back to Kansas to visit, will you hang out with me? Please?
