Eureka's 125 pounder is giving the fans something to cheer about. This young man has overcame many obstacles and adversities to become such a great young wrestler. Last weekend, at the burlington invitational, bechtel faced a tough opponent in the finals.....or did he? Bechtel pinned Mosely from wichita Independent. We all know that mosley is no stranger to the medal stand at hays. All have high hopes for bechtel qualifying, placing, and maybe even coming home with a championship in february from hays. It is about time this young man receives the recognition he deserves.

Sincerely,
Kent Dennis

I agree. I saw the Eureka team at Minneapolis and they have some strong wrestlers in the first 5 weight classes. I bet Bechtel has been able to get film from Burtin/Mosely matches which probably came in handy. Eureka's higher weights should be inspired by these 5 kids and keep the wins rolling.

It's probably safe to say Bechtel could have placed last year with a better draw. He lost to Olson (eventual 5th place finisher) in the quarters and then to Lloyd (3rd place finisher) on the consolation side. Jeff Peterson fell into 6th place by going 2-3 in the tournament. Peterson lost to Lloyd 19-2, while Bechtel only lost 6-1. A loss is a loss, but I think Bechtel was definitely worthy of a medal last year.

And if Shane Miller is still the coach at Eureka, that has to count in Bechtel's favor as well. Shane had the hairiest chest of any 98-pound senior I've ever seen back in 1985. Very intimidating.

The two farthest west kids were Joe Olson of Trego and Jeff Stan of Hugoton.

He wrestled Olson a good match. Joe was winning in the third and got stuck in a head lock. It wasnt like Betchel was hunting for it but Joe shot in and left his head up and he threw a nice headlock.
