It may be a good ideal to post information on the forum about where, when, and what qualifies you for HIGHSCHOL NATIONALS. I know when my son went we had to do some fast planning to get there. If you really love wrestling this is a great tournament for everyone not just the wrestler or his parents etc. With more information out earlier maybe Kansas could be better represented.Nothing better than watching all State Champions and runnerups getting after it.

Good Idea Mike,
I recently sent letters to those already qualified. In that letter of invitation there is a seperate letter for the coach, parent, and the athlete.
To be qualified you must be a senior and you must have been in the state finals sometime in your high school career. If I counted correctly there are 46 wrestlers already qualified in the state of Kansas. This could be one of our largest teams ever. Of course, more will qualify in the 2005 state championships in Wichita and Hays.
The meet is in Cleveland again this year. The team flys out of KCI on March 30 and returns April 4. Parents and coaches are encouraged to go. It is an incredible meet with scores of colleges scouting the tournament.
The costs this year are expected to be $475 per athlete with $250 due on by March 6 and the balance by March 26. I encourage everyone to do their fund raising early so all can participate. This $475 covers your plane ticket, hotel, transportation, entry into the meet, gear, and many other things. For parents the cost is $465 and for coaches it is $500. Parent and coaches have the same deadlines for the same amounts. It is a bargan.
I will be at the Wichita state championships for anyone who qualifies then and would like an invitation. I will be sitting among the Olathe North group so come find me. I will have someone else at Hays doing the same. That person will be anounced at the meet. If you think you are qualified and have not received an invitation by Jan. 15, email me.

They also have the Freshman-Junior Nationals now in Lincoln, Nebraska. I know many wrestlers from Kansas participated in those last year.

There has been some misunderstanding or miscommunication earlier about the weight these wrestlers who have already qualified could wrestle. From what we were told and the rules that are posted on the National web page, you must wrestle the weight you were at your SENIOR year in high school at State Duals or State TOurnament. Since we do not have a state dual tournament, you will have to wrestle the weight you were your senior year. Read below for the rule!
In the past there have been wrestlers drop a weight class or two and that WILL NOT be allowed this year from what we've been told and what we are reading.
HERE IS THE INFO POSTED ON THEIR WEB PAGE:
Weight Classes
103, 112, 119, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 152, 160, 171, 189, 215, 275
There will be one weigh-in for the entire event with a 3-pound weight allowance example: 103 weight class will be 106 pounds
You cannot enter a weight class below the lowest weight class you wrestled during your senior year in either the State Duals or individual State Championships at the end of the year.
However, you can enter any weight class higher than the one you wrestled your senior year in either the State Duals or individual State Championships at the end of the year.

This must be a new rule my son wrestled one weight class under what he wrestled as a Sr. He wrestled 135 as a Sr. and wrestled 130 at highschool nationals. I'm not so sure that is correct, but not saying it isn't. Will check this out further.
Thanks Mike Church Sr.

This is what the rule says on the web page about HS Nationals. This was confirmed to us by Chuck Elvin and Bob Gonzales!

The weigh in rule for this year's senior nationals has changed.
There is a 3lb. allowance, but the weight class that you wrestle must be the weight class or higher that you wrestled in your state tournament or dual state tournament. You may wrestle at a higher weight class, but not at a lower one.
The senior national tournament has become so competitive that wrestlers were dropping weight classes to compete in it. The issue was becoming dangerous.

Gary Ulmer I agree! This change while controversial, was needed.

I agree also. Some kids cut to much, mine was one of them.
