Some old wrestlers and parents were talking about how they liked when the Classic was downtown. Maybe if we get that arena we can have it downtown again.

Does anyone know why they don't have it at Centry II any more?

Anything would be better than the horse barn. Nothing personal, it is a great tournament, but the facility is awful.

We wreslted there for the first time last year and was suprised to be in a horse barn. My son was expecting the Kansas Coliseum and was pretty disappointed in the barn. The competition was great and the tournment ran smooth except all the fights. Regardless where we wrestle we will be back!!

It used to be if you made it there, then you would place at kids state. Maybe we could get something started to get it moved.

We were disappointed the first year we went as well (many years ago), but it's kind of grown on me, other than the smell. A very tough tournament with some excellent wrestling. It's kind of along the lines of the hard-core guys who work out in the old basic gym with the ugly black weights vs. the high-tech, pretty boy stuff. Old school, but with plenty of full mats, which is very nice.
Would the Century II even be big enough for the Classic as it is now? We attended a tournament there a few years ago and there was enough room, but it was a much smaller tournament than the Classic. We only get two more turns at the Classic, I kind of hope it doesn't move before then. It's definitely one of a kind.

Wrestling mom, that's probably true. Centry II was just a nice place back in the day, but the trny has grown. Maybe they could change the date to cordinate to have it at the Kansas Coliseum. I have been told that they might move High School State from there. I like that you can see more than one match at a time. in bigger arena type places.

Just hope for a warm weekend! It's not bad inside when it's warm outside, but that place is an icebox when is really cold outside.

Hi everyone. The classic is very important to us at Goddard Wrestling Club. It brings good competition to our area. There are around 13 different states and approx 1500 wrestlers show up each year. The tournament was started from Goddard Wrestling Club, headed by Rob Brewster and Ray Kramer. Yes the classic is sponsored by Goddard. I bet most of you didn't know that. Let me start answering some of the questions you have. The tournament is the largest one day tournament in Kansas. We run anywhere from 16 to 18 full size mats. Currently the only spaces that can accommodate the this size tournament is the good ol' barn or century II expo hall. The colliseum cannot accommodate that number of mats and keep this a one day tournament. The home and garden show is held at Century II and expo hall during the same weekend as the Classic. Everyone involved in the Classic would love to find a better facility. We are currently discussing using the Koch Arena facility at WSU. And because of our parntnership with the Wichita Sports Commission, hopefully the future site will be in the downtown arena. Plus, I think the smell makes the kids wrestle better (lol). Hopefully, the smell won't keep you away. Hope to see you there!

Go to http://www.wichitasports.com for info. I don't think the full info is up yet, but it gives phone numbers if you want to be put on a mailing list for an entry form when they come out. Also you could click on the clubs link at the left and contact the Goddard Wrestling Club.

Good old Ray Kramer. Did he ever grow his hair back. I wrestled out there for a year many moons ago, because the kids club I wrestled for had kids that just were out of diapers or great big yetties!hahah Goddard had many kids at diffrent weights. That isn't a club it is more like family.
As far as the home and garden show held at Century II. We should wrestle those people for control of expo hall for that date. hahahaha I dought those garden folk could take us!
