Just interested to see what great first round match-ups people are seeing. Right off the bat I see a GREAT match-up in 4A at 125. Ortiz (Ulysses) who gave Weatherbee of TMP his only loss and has beaten 3-2-1A state champion Younkin of Oakley, verses Geske (Abilene) who was second at state last year and has been ranked #1 most of this year. Under the right circumstances this Ortiz vs. Geske match could have taken place in the finals. Feel free to add others so we can keep an eye open for them when our kids aren't on the mat.

Here are my highlighted the 4a first round matches (you would hope the state papers would do this for us...)

112: #1 Isaac Wall, Andale (28-3) vs #3 Josh Sharp, Fort Scott (27-7)
Wall has been top ranked all year, while Sharp has been a giant killer, single-handidly sending Carrillo and Hamilton home at Regionals.

125: #1 Luke Geske, Abilene (28-6) vs #2 Joey Ortiz, Ulysses (30-3)
No comment needed here.

140: #2 Rees McKinney, Scott City (35-5) vs #6 Caleb Galemore, Chanute (29-8)
Contrasting styles. Galemore is has a no-holds barred style to McKinney's physical, techniqued approach.

145: #2 Travis Eden, Sante Fe Trail (28-7) vs #4 Brian Simpson, Columbus (22-6)
Two potential placewinners meeting in the first round. This will be a physical, tough match.

152: #4 Schuyler Sharpe, Colby (32-4) vs Derek Trammell, Spring Hill (31-3)
All of Trammel's losses have come to Erisman, while Sharpe has been solid all year. This will be determined by who can lock up their pinning combination and score back points.

275: #3 Danny Lavoie, Concordia (30-4) vs #4 Tad Greer, El Dorado (28-0).
The difficult Abilene Regional has produced another first round match-up of ranked wrestlers. Both of these seniors will produce a great match to end the first round on.

215# in 5a, Sean Hoffman Shawnee Heights (5th in 5a heavyweight last year, currently ranked 6th) vs. Micheal Espinoza (25-6, ranked 4th)of Ottawa. Should be a good match, and the winner gets Sponsel.
