Broeckelman Norton took ONLY 10 wrestlers because they choose to take only 10. Billy knew that the other 4 were not going to compete at this tournament. Billy wasn't going to leave any points at home. What does this say to your varisity wrestlers if they go compete at another tournament and not with their VARISITY teammates. The other reason Billy new that these 4 wrestlers would give other teams more points. Yes congradulations to Norton and great job scoring those what 15 points on Saturday.

Pokerface,

Not exactly sure what you mean by your comment about Norton scoring 15 points on Saturday. If you can show me a coach in the state that would rather have the third place points on Saturday rather than the second place points on Friday then I would like to meet this coach. Your comment is a disgrace to your wrestling knowledge, if you have any.

Pokerface, let me spell it out for you, since you can't figure it out. W-L record DURING the 2 day tourney = 1st place. Did you're team finish in the top 10?

I am not making fun of the winning team. I just had a couple of questions that i guess no one wants to answer. Yes 2nd place is better than 3rd place i got that one flash, but does that mean the 2nd place winner is better than the 3rd place kid? Billy did a job at the seating meeting and that is all i have to say.

I don't post very often, but I'm starting to love this place. By the way Pokerface our other VARISITY team took second place at their tourney, so that makes Norton winning 1st at 1 tourney and 2nd at another on the same weekend. Now go figure that one out!!

What is a seating meeting? Is that where people sit back and talk about the chairs they are in? As for leaving other starters at home, Norton isn't the only team to ever do that, look at several other teams that have left varsity guys home because they need some confidence first before seeing this type of competition. No sense in sending a guy to a tournament to go 2 and BBQ, when he can bring legit contenders that will push for medals.

The whole scenario also of the other 4 would give other teams more points is crazy! If you think about it, if you have a bye, you win your match next you get the points for the bye and the win! Give the other team points? Someone needs to give you a clue!

Is there something wrong with sending your other varsity wrestlers with the JV team to a varsity tourny?

Glick125,

Please do not discourage Pokerface from expressing his opinion as I am getting a great laugh out of his posts and laughing is healthy so the more he posts the healthier I am. And by the way Pokerface I did go back and look at the brackets and it appears that Norton was 4-9 on Saturday and 27-12 for the weekend. And the seeding meeting not "seating" meeting is based on criteria that is pretty cut and dried so I don't think coaches can seed their kids where they want to by working the system. But I encourage you to keep on posting here as I am getting a good laugh everytime I read one of your posts.

Pokerface-

Does it matter the win-lose ratio on staurday? Apparently you're teams kids couldnt cut it or they woulda been out there.

Mad props to Norton, quite the accomplishment winning it two years in a row! Go Jays!!!!

Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Sweazy,

Probably wouldn't have made a difference as far as team points in this case but just something to think about. In a tournament you only get points for a bye if you win the next match.

Now if there was no bye then a wrestler would not only get points for the win but could also score with a fall.

Criteria is usually fairly cut and dried, and with the exception of the Liberal tournament this year, most seeding meetings are run with some sense of legitimacy. Liberal simply did not consider this year's head to head matches in the criteria. Seeding is usually established by head to head competition this season, prior state place in same weight, different weight, prior finish at the same tournament the previous year, and overall record. Record against common opponents will often come into play late in the season if there is no actual head to head, but that is usually far down the list of criteria. Overall record vs "acknowledged strong opposition" (or some similar statement) is also a consideration, but usually not the first criteria by any means. Obviously, Norton wrestles a much stronger schedule than most 3A schools.

Crunch the numbers however you want, them bottom line is still the same... Norton #1.
I believe it's been posted thet Perry, OK took second and Colby third. So out of the Kansas teams competing the northwest kansas teams have dominated the (arguably)toughest tournament in the state. Congratulations to Norton and Colby for an outstanding performace in a quality tournament.

So if Norton and Colby are so close to one another in Northwest Kansas why was Colby cheering against Norton? Didn't understand that.
