wouldnt it be interesting if we took all of the state champs from each class and wrestled them against each other...
all 3-2-1a state champs on one team
all 4a state champs on one team...
same for 5 and 6a

for example: 3-2-1a 103 state champ *doesnt matter what team* wrestling the 4a 103 state champ, and so on scoring like a dual...

wrestling each other team in a round robin situation

wouldnt you pay to see that?

bringing in the fact that not only seniors win state... its would be more exciting to watch than the east west classic
not to mention, it would be like a grand state, but only state champs and in a dual format

I think Warkentine and Rameriez would be great refs for this...they force the action. What's my big buddies name that refereed last year at the All Star Dual...I drew a blank!!!

FYI

This year's "Senior Classic" will feature a different approach. It will be a "big school vs. small school" dual with one team consisting of the 5A/6A all-stars against the 4A/321A all-stars.

The meet will again be held in Topeka at the Expocenter the Friday night before the Kids State tournament.

The KWCA board approved this change for this season to see how it works out.

whenever they have it, that is a deal that should really draw a crowd, and settle a historical question that has been kicked around more than about anything else I can think of on this forum. also should cause guys from east and west to work together more, at least for one night, to attempt to prove their class superiority. Kudos to the guys that set up that venue! Too bad its just seniors, and by invitation only, as some sr. state champs will likely end up watching.

Kit and all other interested parties,
Sounds like an interesting idea but it will clearly settle nothing. One reason was already pointed out that it is seniors and they are not always the best each year. Another reason is that many of the best wrestlers do not wrestle because they are preparing for other competitions. I think that this will be a disadvantage to the larger schools which usually have more of their "studs" preparing for national/freestyle competiton. I could be wrong, so don't hate. But clearly this will answer no question about which is best which fluctuates from year to year. If you wan't to do this thing right and get the best kids, there needs to be more incentive to wrestle in it. My idea would be to make it an "all-state" match and give the wrestlers "all-state" status like they have in so many other sports. Also an "all-state" ring for each competitor would be cool. Many states do the ring thing. Yes, I realize that the honor of wrestling should be enough but it does not work that way with kids.

From my understanding, the Senior Classic will be held on Thursday night at the Kansas Expocentre and it will be Classes 1-4A vs 5-6A.

The Kids State Tournament will take place on Friday & Saturday due to Easter weekend.

i like the idea of an "all-state" wrestler, and with the duals of champions im sure an all-state wrestler could be determined by how the wrestler does against the other champs

I already like some of the possible guys on the 1-4a roster for this event:

1/3rd of NWKL

1/3 of NCKL

1/3rd of Santa Fe Trail

1/3 of Santa Fe Trail? I thought you knew wrestling better than that Aaron. I haven't had the oportunity to see them this year so maybe I'm wrong but I think there will be tougher wrestlers.

Well come out and watch us then. I believe we have the Rossville tournament on Jan.6th. I am not sure how tough it will be, but there are alot of good wrestlers there. And what is the grudge with Santa Fe Trail if I may ask?

Justin...noticed I'm not the one with the grudge...it's some body with the name moma's boy, isn't it supposed to be spelled momma? Santa Fe Trail would be the team I'd be jumping through hoops to recruit as a collective group so they all would come to my school if I were a recruiter!

I do not like dual tournaments. It doesn't always present the best match. Many time the two best wrestlers square off and time the wrestle the lesser kids they are gassed out. I have seen a kid beat everyone in his bracket except the 4th place kid. Does that mean he is worse? I like the grand state idea but not this one.
