To the Kansas wrestling community:

As you say your prayers over the coming days, I would like ask you all to include the Barba family of Leavenworth in them.

Many of you in the northeastern part of the state probably know Dennis Barba. Dennis is a long-time official and for a few years was the head coach at Immaculata. He and his wife Pam's oldest daughter, 22-year old Corrine, is in a Texas hospital tonight, fighting for her life with an unknown heart condition.

Corrine served as a wrestling Mat-Aide at Imac for several seasons, and while she graduated before I started coaching there, she did a great job of training her kid sister Lory. Lory was my top Aide for three seasons.

On this forum we spend a lot of time on pretty trivial subjects as if they were the most important thing in the world. Tonight and in the coming days, please put all of that aside and say a little prayer for Corrine Barba.

Sincerely,
Jeff Holmes

Please keep us posted on the situation. And please let the family know that the thoughts and prayers of the Kansas wrestling community are with them.

Dear Friends:

I just wanted to let everyone know that Corinne Barba has been diagnoised with lupus and remains under treatment at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. She's hanging in there, but it's been rough. Her parents are in San Antonio with her.

Corinne, an ROTC graduate, was in Air Force basic training when her medical condition came up.

I hope everyone in the Kansas Wrestling will continue their good thoughts and prayers for Corinne, her parents Dennis and Pam, sister Lory and brother Drew.

Thanks again,
Jeff Holmes

Dear Friends:

Corinne Barba's fight with lupus ended this morning when she passed away at the age of 22 at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

Our sport creates extended families; I have always believed that. It's not just parents, coaches and athletes, but all of the managers, Mat-Aides, cheerleaders and all of their parents as well. You don't spend all of those long Saturday tournaments together without becoming close. Corinne Barba was a part of that family at Immaculata.

Even after she graduated from Imac, she still returned for practices and camps, made it to many events, and even pitched in keeping the scorebook a few times. She will be missed by her family, her friends and all of us whose lives she touched for all too brief a time.

Farewell Queen Corinne...

Sincerely,
Jeff Holmes
