Because K-State (like all other state organizations) is undergoing a budgetcut because of the slump in the economy right now, if anything, KSU will probally drop some of the sports programs that do not produce a revenue of somesort. Until more stable economic times, i wouldn't hold your breath waiting for a KSU wrestling program.

While K-State does not have a program, they do have a club wrestling program. K-U does also. They have meets between schools and have some sort of post-season competititon. I know some kids on K-States squad who went somewhere in Texas last year for qualifying rounds and then went to Pennsylvania. I know the school or some organization at the school footed the bill for travel and motels. Beyond that I don;t have a lot of information on the program.

They now compete in the NCWA - a club wrestling organization. Kind of a step above intermurals and a step below traditional inter-collegiate wrestling.

K-State has fared very well in the organization, as well they should, given the number of talented Kansas high school wrestlers who elect to attend KSU for a quality in-state education instead wrestling inter-collegiately. Several members of the current team are ranked nationally, as is the team. Rankings were at Wrestling USA and, I belive they are also on intermat.

Incidentally, KSU used to have a NCAA wrestling team until it folded back in the early 1970's.

http://www.wrestlingusa.com has a site directory for NCWA. The preseason team and individual rankings can be found there.

Kstate is losing out on some good kids. I do not think that it is because of budget cuts. I think that the K-state adminstration does not think that it will generate enough revenue to be valid. Oh well why worry about K-State when we can support wrestling in kansas at Fort Hays State. Oh maybe you are to good to go to Fort Hays? Forget K-State and K-Who? and turn every Kid into A tiger!!! Hey Bingham where did you get your information????!!!!

As a student at K-State I happen to know quite a few guys that wrestle for our club team, and it really is sad that K-State no longer has a NCAA team. Guys like Beau Tillman, Karl Singer, Jacob Eisenbise, you all know these names and there are more. I know they did well last year at the NCWA championships. I feel sorry for some of the other Big 12 schools that could have had these guys!

when the schools were forced to have more athletic opportunitys for girls, a lot of them had to cut something; this ended up being wrestling in a numbers of colleges.

Intermat has reported that 439 collegiate wrestling programs have been dropped since 1972. While many have been purely a financial decision, most are alledged to stem directly from the enforcement of Title IX regulations.

Without a doubt, the concept of gender equity is an important concern. But, in my opinion, this has turned into reverse discrimination against the non-glamour male sports - including wrestling. Unfortunately few are lining up to protect our interests.

Cutting men's sports in order to free up revenues to promote women's athletics is one of the only alternatives available. Because, if college administrators do not comply with Title IX they run the risk of jeopardizing the receipt of all federal and state funding for their schools.
