Bishop Carroll comes back to defeat South

Bishop Carroll has its seniors to thank for securing a late win.
The Golden Eagles defeated South 38-34 Thursday night, despite falling behind early in the dual.
Senior Nathan Brenner pinned Craig Pemberton at 189 pounds to give Carroll a one-point lead before senior Ryan Sponsel pinned sophomore Rueben Villa at 215 to preserve the victory.
The Eagles had to get pins in both matches to leave no doubt with the heavyweight bout to come.
South's Xavier Louis won at heavyweight.
"It puts a lot of pressure on you when your coach tells you to get the pin," Brenner said.
The Titans took a 19-4 lead when sophomore Bishop Price beat junior Liam Kastor at 130.
After Carroll won two more matches to make it 19-16, South stole the 145-pound match when junior Alex Patrick pinned Tom McDonald with two seconds left, turning a 17-10 win for McDonald into six team points for South instead.
"We just came out flat," Finkeldei said. "We weren't up for it, and we wrestled like it. We kept giving (South) hope."
McDonald's loss gave South a 25-16 lead, putting the pressure on the Eagles to get big points, mainly from pins.
After McDonald lost, "We had to perform," Sponsel said.
They did.
Carroll answered with wins by junior David Loos and senior Collin Gabler, giving Carroll a 26-25 lead with four matches left.
After South senior Jeff Edgmon pinned junior Ben Meyer, Brenner and Sponsel won their matches.
"We just came out a littleover confident," Brenner said."We expect to come out and dominate."
South coach David Nigg said he wasn't surprised that Carroll came from behind, because the Eagles are so strong in the heavier weight classes.
"They were better than we were," Nigg said.
