hmmm... how can you say that when their is obviously a tournament just as tough going on, in the other half of the state? Bashor Linwood host the bobcat classic, and it too could be said to be the toughest tournament in the state. So Mr. Church, based on what are you saying Newton is tougher?

Well despite no response i'm going to take this time to break down both the Newton and Bobcat Classic to show you how the Bobcat Classic is easily comparible, and an easy case could be made to say it's in fact tougher. So here we go:

Teams:

Bobcat=14 top 10 ranked teams: 3 From 6A, 4 from 5A, 5 from 4A, 1 from 321A and 1 from Iowa class 2A.

Newton=10 top 10 ranked teams: 4 from 6A, 4 from 5A, 1 from 4A 0 from 321A and 1 from Oklahoma class 2A.

Individual Wrestling From the Dec. 17th 2004 rankings (however does not include either Iowa or Oklahomas ranked wrestlers):

Bobcat= 73 ranked wrestlers:
103=4
112=3
119=4
125=7
130=4
135=3
140=7
145=4
152=7
160=6
171=8
189=8
215=4
275=4

Newton= 69 ranked wrestlers
103=4
112=5
119=6
125=4
130=5
135=7
140=5
145=5
152=1
160=6
171=3
189=3
215=9
275=6

There you are Mr. Church based on that information alone, you can argue that with the Bobcat Classic having four more top 10 ranked teams, and 4 more ranked kids it is definetly equally as tough and arguably even tougher than Newton. But if you have something that you would like to counter that with please go ahead i'd like to hear your opinion. This is not meant to disrespect you Mr. Church, I'm just putting out facts to back my claims, and would like to hear your opinion on it as well.

You seem to have forgotten that Norton WILL BE @ Newton. Last I checked, they were ranked.

Well as I have been told Norton up for the toughest competition. Newton better known as the tournament that exposes the likely state champions to be is tough!! No doubt. You go to the Bobcat Classic and we'll go to NEWTON.

As far as I see it both tournaments are hard. I do believe that Norton has 7 ranked wrestlers as of right now. That would put the number at 76 (I think).

Don't Forget about the Blue Valley Northwest Tournament on the 22nd. That's a tough one too!

but you also gotta think about it that newton has many many underdogs and unranked wrestlers that come in there and tear up the tournament. both are good i give em that.

Either way you look at it, even with Norton added into the mix of Newton, that brings it to 11 top ten ranked teams, and 76 ranked wrestlers. That's only 3 more than at the bobcat, and 3 less top 10 teams. And as for the comment about unranked and overlooked competition if a team is a top 10 quality team then they will have guys that aren't ranked and can still blow up the brackets. With 3 more top 10 ranked teams at the Bobcat, there will be it's fair share of non-ranked and overlooked kids. I'm not trying to make a case that the Bobcat is better by any means. And Mr. Church i told you there wasn't meant to be any disrespect with my previous posts. I'm simply showing to you that in fact the Bobcat Classic IS BY FAR EQUALLY AS TOUGH AS NEWTON. And you have absolutely no proof that it's not. They are both grinders, and the participants in both should be proud. Good luck to everyone wrestling in both the Bobcat, and Newton. It will be fun to see how they turn out. Merry Christmas Mr. Church thanx for being a jerk.

lol your remarks are actually laughable. I have no hard feelings towards you Mr. Church, nor did i ever. I hope that your Happy New Years to me was meant in good nature, and I offer the same back to you. As for you buck, you have no clue what you're even talking about, and so i should ask that you keep your dull witted remarks to yourself, as all of us on this forum are now dummer for having read this... And in case you're too intellectually challenged to understand what that means i'll put it into laments terms, SHUT UP!

Yes everyone on this forum is so much "Dummer" for having heard my comments. I am so horribly sorry. Newton is better than Bobcat.

Okay well no disrespect to either of these tournaments, but they don't really compare. Don't get me wrong their are a lot of great wrestlers and teams there, but it just doesn't quite match that of Bashor or Newton. Here's what i mean:

Liberal: 4 Top 10 ranked teams: Garden City, Goodland, Ulysses, and Ponderosa CO. Plus there are 17 Kansas Ranked wrestlers. I can't pull up Ponderosa's, but i'm sure that their are 5+ since they're the top ranked team in class 5A Colorado.

Hays: 6 Top 10 ranked teams: Campus, Goodland, Ulysses, Shawnee Heights, St. Francis, and Oakley. Plus there are 41 ranked wrestlers here.

So based on the criteria that i used, though tough tournaments, they just don't quite stack up to the Bobcat Classic, or Newton. But then again that could be just my personal opinion. I'm just going off the criteria of Top 10 ranked teams, and number of currently ranked wrestlers participating.

I was in no way shape or form hinting the SPC was as tough as the two mentioned above, it's a stroll in the garden compared to the meat grinders above, as to which is better, it doesn't matter, each has it's strengths and weaknesses, but i do not know enough about either to declare a "winner" but i know the SPC isn't half as tough as the above two, and it's the hardest tournament we see all year
