KSHAA rule book states that a wrestler cannot have more than 30 competition points prior to the state championship series (2 day tour=4pts, 1 day tourney=3 pts, double dual=2 pts...)

what happens if a wrestler has more than 30 pts. can he still wrestle in regionals etc?
Many teams schedules would have wrestlers over the limit (i.e. BVNW and some Wichita schools)

We had one year when I was at Immaculata in which we were over scheduled. What we simply had to do was make sure that everyone set out at least one meet. It was annoying but not a major problem.

BVNW and many Wichita school schedule more varsity pts. on purpose for a couple of reasons.

1. What if a kid is hurt one weekend, he can still get matches in to the pt. limit.

2. Great way for JV wrestlers to get a taste of the varsity tourney. It's a gauge to see how they stack and what they need to improve on.

Some states require you to have a certain percentage of duals and tournaments. Does Kansas? Could you wrestle all duals?

However you get thirty points is how you get thirty points. Sometimes its better for teams to schedule all tournaments. Believe it or not, just a few years ago, Silver Lake had only four guys on the whole team and Ithink Coach LaMar sent them mostly to tournaments and dropped his duals. Now, of course, they go where ever they want and kick everyone's butt.

Duals are good for team unity and school support. New parents don't like sitting in the stands all day to watch their kid wrestle for a few minutes.

3 points, 5 matches, pretty sweet. That is why many schools are moving to that format. It is great for getting your team mat time, but you miss out on the finals match-ups of a traditional tournament.

Our tournament is kind of cool because it combines both elements. Your better kids will get up to eight matches while your less-better kids will get up to five. It is two days so it will cost you 4 competition points.

In fact, i think we may still be adding one or two more teams for next year.

I did not mean to use the the words "sweet" and "cool" in the previous post. I was just pressed for time. Sorry, I will act my age from now on.

Bill:

The "sweet" and "cool" were fine....I was just wondering where "less-better" came from....

When will Kansas catch-up will other sates that allow 40-55 matches per-season?
The Texas teams that compete at the Derby Invite have 50+ matches. What's up with that?

I don't think there's a cap on the total number of matches a person is allowed to wrestle a season, the points have a major effect on how many they get, i know Weatherbee of TMP last year had 42?

If a dual tournament is 3 points, and you get 5 matches, you have 30 points to use, that is 10 dual meets @ 5 matches each, that's 50 matches theoretically, so it can be done, presuming you don't attend any regular tournament and have no league commitments
