Was it just me or were the officials at Coffeeville terrible?

Andale had an official that when calling a pin would rare back as hard as he could then pound the mat while flopping like a fish and letting out a looooonnnnggg beeeep....loud enough to surely bring attention to himself and whoever was getting pinned. Very annoying!

I agree that was a bit overdone in my opinion, and i am sure quite embarassing if you found yourself getting pinned.

Monte,

I know a little about the referree situation at Coffeyville. Image reffing all day on Friday with 3 officials on 3 mats, the state blew this one not replacing the 4th official. Did not know the ref who did not call the slam at 215, so have little input there. Art Torrez is doing the state tourny and always does a fair job, he did seem to struggle from time to time. The other official was in the hospital something during the week with a cracked rib, so the fact he was able to go at all is amazing.

Indeed, I can't blame everything on the officials. As you say they were busy, 3 for 3 mats. Mr. Bowden (the State) no doubt dropped the ball on this tourny. But there were just to many bad calls towards every team. And as far as cracked ribs if the ref is unable to perform his duties (run around the mat as he should be able too) well, especially at the regional level, he should have declined.
And I agree if a kid has to rely on ref's to win matches they probably aren't champion level. But even the best of the best win by one or two points which a bad call can destory that oppertunity.
Oh well, enough said, I just noticed a lot of coaches dissapointed with the State and Ref'ing.

coffeyville is not the only regional with TERRIBLE officiating. The Bonner Springs regional was terrible also. As I posted earlier this year, "the only thing I see the ref's doing consistently is making terrible calls" If I performed my job to the level of expertise I see the ref's performing their jobs, I would be looking for another one! Thanks to the state, for the sake of not naming names, this is all we get, even at this point and time in the season!

There is a shortage of refs. If you know someone that isn't officiating, and is done with wrestling, encourage them to stay involved in wrestling by officiating. It can only help the situation. Complaining wont.

Can't remember all their names but we had some outstanding officials at Leavenworth.

Three of the four referees at Andale were very good.

As far as the referee slapping the mat too hard, that has been this particular referees style for years.

I have no problem with it!

Coach Wheeler = A+
Kim Weaver = A+
The Mat Slapper = A+

Just want to drive home what Coach Lane said. Quit wasting your time groaning about bad calls on this forum and get back into the sport. Officiating is very challenging, but also very rewarding. Go to KSHSAA.org and click on the link for officials. Spend about $100-150 on your gear, start working some kids tournies, attend the meetings, and make some very nice spending money. Please consider doing this. As the coach said, there is a shortage of good refs and we could really use some new blood in there.

was the ref who slapped the mat hard the same guyt that used to work the silver lake tournaments a few years back. I especially remember that in Jr. High, we all loved it, it brought more excitment to the match, and we just thought it was great how involved in the match that guy was.
