i used to wrestle against OP in the early eighties. At that time it was a public school. I'm assuming it still is.

below is their website. I glanced at it quickly. I didn't see anything that indicated it was a private school.

BTW - OP's 140 lb. champ, Weber, and their 152 3rd place finisher, Armato, are JV kids.

Erisman loses to a sophomore in the finals....he just can't win the big match.

Weber is actually varsity. Bailey has been out most of the year. Weber was ranked 4th in the state before they announced Bailey would be competing at the state tournaments for his forth title. Weber lost to the third place Mundy in pool. Marcus Armato was varsity and competed in the District tournament last year, came close to qualifying. He just couldn't get in the line up this year. I heard Erisman was up 2-1 late and lost to a TD at the end. Losing to Haynes is nothing to be ashamed of, especially in one that close. Haynes will be nationally ranked soon. I heard all of the Kansas wrestlers looked really good. Congrats, competing with OP is always tough, shows a lot of character. Good job to all.

Reminder: Elijah Madison was in the finals for Salina Central last year. I'm not positive on all the details of his transfer, but the rumor mills would have Oak Park (public school) becoming more like a Blair Academy of the Midwest which is good for the quality of wrestling in the area.

Another Reminder: Neil Erisman is a former Cadet National Champion, multiple All-American, and an extremely devoted athlete. His resume is better than almost all of the people that post on this forum. And because of this, every time he steps on the mat he has a target on his back, added stress... while his opposition can be more relaxed and go all out since losing to a kid like Erisman isn't a shame at all. Wrestling with that kind of pressure and stress as a young man is extremely difficult.

Support your states best wrestlers, do not throw stones at the very rare opportunity when they err. More often than not, those throwing stones would never had been in the position to be noticed by a National community of wrestlers for their accomplishments.

It is an exceptional kid that becomes noticed for his/her exceptional accomplishments. Support that in a positive way.

I believe he is generally what is referred to as an internet talk forum troll.

I am actually a Kansas resident but follow Missouri wrestling as my son wrestled in Missouri. They have those internet Trolls over there as well. Elijah Madison's father works for the railroad by the way and was transferred. It so happens that he works with one of the Oak Park wrestlers father so he ended up there. FYI, CoachDeYo. They are as good as they are because their Competitors Kids club is a great program. They have more than a few Kansas boys that work with them as well. You shouldn't listen to rumors.

Bob, I appreciate your insight. I couldn't imagine a program being what it is without a wonderful feeding program filling it with very talented youth. Coach Mayhab has done a very fine job. The rumor mills will be rumor mills, and i apologize to anyone i have offended by making an assumption or forming an uninformed opinion.

I am very impressed with what they are doing and who they are getting in their programs. It is always nice to get a quality transfer into your program that steps right in and makes an impact.

Again, thanks for the FYI. I know now (through the details for this forum and you) about the railroad bit. And quite honestly I dont really care that much. It is nice to have a strong contender in our area. It brings the level of wrestling to a higher standard of quality.

Maybe you could clear up another rumor. Some people might question how your 145 pound champion, who is a sophomore ended up wrestling for OP after wrestling his freshman year for Carl Junction, MO (down around Joplin).

Given the opportunity, parents will their send children to schools with outstanding coaches and programs. I believe the transfer you refer to was examined by the MSHSAA after a complaint was filed from an area school and the transfer was approved. It was several years ago and the details are not as fresh.

El Reno High School in Oklahoma has always attracted outstanding wrestlers who, in their youth, wrestled in other parts of the state. Check the history of their current 152 lb. wrestler and several others??

recruiting is brought up all the time and honestly I have thought about it far to much. I have sat down with my wife and disgusted it from time to time because I know that I would want what is best for my kid. No one would have to recruit us because we would be looking for the best opportunity for our children.

Oak Park is a great fit for the Hwy Weight Madison. The fact that the father could get a job in the area made the move possible.

I feel bad for the Salina area because they lose someone they have put time into but they understand that could happen and I am sure wish him the best

Ah Richard, memories of El Reno, good and bad. I coached at Geary just West of El Reno for seven years. I was also an assistant to Archie Randall on the Oklahoma National team. Consequently, our wrestlers would work out in the off-season with the El Reno club. It seemed only natural because they had the best club. In 1993, we won conferance and had some very good returners which lined us up for a state title run. At the beginning of the 1993-94 season. Two of my regional champions did not return. Over the summer, they had moved (fake parental separations which led to dual residencies) to El Reno. They were both state champions and El Reno won the first of a long string of state titles for Randall. We had one state champion and finished fifth. With three champions we would have won it. For many years, I was very resentful about my missed opportunity. I also felt very bad for the kids who stayed and I feel were robbed by their peers of great workout partners. As I look back now, as a parent, I MIGHT have done the same thing and I let it go. This is a part of life and it will go on forever.

Couple of things to correct and pursue the facts on:

Saying Erisman just can't win the big one, if you refer to the finals of every tournament as the big one, then he's won plenty of those. You are comparing this to a state tournament...Basehor Linwood was more of a state tournament, and Neil has yet to lost to an instate guy this year.

Also guys c'mon....Madison was from Salina Central last year not South!

The wrestler I was speaking of is a sophomore, and is listed as a champion in the first post. He was a freshman last year. He placed at state for Carl Junction last year as a freshman, not a couple of years ago.

I posted a reply about the Haynes/Erisman match and the OP wrestling program in the " rough weekend for kansas wrestlers" post. I work with both Haynes and Madison. A number of workers that work KC-Salina maintain their residence in Kansas City. If I relocated I would look for the best program to put my son in. It is also close by his work reporting place. Further both of these fathers take their sons' education very seriously.
