Team Kansas moving in on Oklahoma - I love it! By far, the majority of college wrestlers red shirt their freshman year. They need that extra year to adjust to the rigors of the university level pounding and to grow more into their manhood. Realize that if they don't red shirt, they're 18 year old teenagers butting heads with 23 year old MEN. Joe Johnston of Iowa and Jacob Klein of Nebraska are two examples that had great high school careers and red shirted last year. Expect to see both of them in the varsity line-up this year. I suspect that Luke and Justin will both redshirt this year. Look who's ahead of them, Durden #3 in the nation and Lambrecht #1 in the nation. No inside scoop here, but the odds are red shirt. They'll still workout with the team everyday and wrestle "unattached" in open tourneys. Good luck to all 4 Kansans in Sooner-land.

They are tremendously talented and have a great future in front of them.
But keep in mind that Bo Maynes was considered by many to be Kansas' best ever after going undefeated in all four years of high school. And it has taken him until now to earn the nod as the top wrestler on the team at his weight (granted injury has played a role in this but he has had tremendous practice room competition each year too).
Not saying it can't be done, just saying its a whole new ballgame at NCAA DI and they are wrestling behind/against some of the nation's best.
Good luck to all Kansas high school alums as they begin their collegiate seasons this year.

I agree about red shirting. In college it is almost a necessity. Blake Seiler (Bishop Carroll) is red-shirting this year at Oklahoma State, but expect to see him in a lot of open tournaments.
