I was just curious about all of the four timers of Kansas. Like their names and where they were from.

Of the 18 listed...who do you all think would be the top 10 Kansas 4 timers?

I'd say they all deserve the "TOP" honor.

There is no way to determine the top 10 if they have all been 4-timers. Too many factors to consider...such as weight class, competion, and size of school.

Here's another question. How many of the 4 timers went on to wrestle in college?

I think they all did for the most part. The better question is how did they do at college. Who did well and who squanderd opportunities by transferring too much.

1974 3A 155 Oeser, Roy Kapaun Mount Carmel
1975 3A 155 Oeser, Roy Kapaun Mount Carmel
1976 3A 167 Oeser, Roy Kapaun Mount Carmel
1976 Grand 167 Oeser, Roy Kapaun Mount Carmel
1977 3A 167 Oeser, Roy Kapaun Mount Carmel

Richard, please tell us a little about the gentleman above (Oeser). He must have been one bad man-child. Most of the other four timers started out at the lowest weight their freshman year - but this Oeser dude was kicking butt on big kids his freshman year. And also won GRAND state his JR year. How'd that Grand state thing work anyway and why isn't it done any more?

Easy there Sweazy. I am sure he would still run a clinic on you! All 150 pounds of him! I am sure he would have done it differently in hind sight, but he found a place to use that talent. He is a great one on one coach, and I think his talent will re-surface through other wrestlers for many years to come. Maybe that is the ultimate determining factor of the greatness of a four timer: What did they do for the sport after their joints were shot, and their competitive days were over?

Hey didn't Grand State happen in 1975 and 1976? If so who beat Oeser in 1975?

Ike,

I there have been a lot of wrestlers that transferred frequently in years past. I think only the ones remembered are the most current.

I believe he coaches at Maize high school. And his son was a state qualifier at like 189 this year too, if I'm not mistaking. He's a good coach, I just wish he would have let me wrestle one of his Maize kids in our dual. lol.

How did Boyle do in High school overall? Also any relation to Jeff Boyle of Norton?

I had the honor of hearing Travis Stites talk at a young kids wrestling tournament. This was right after he won his fourth title. It was very uplifting and encouraging. I remember him looking at all the young wrestlers and telling them that at one time, he was just like them. All he wanted to do was go to State as a younger kid but never made it. He was not one of the young kids all the coaches talked about. In fact, he was not even that good as a youngster but he stuck with it and every year, he would just get a little better. I know that his speech left an impression on everyone. I will never forget it.
