Does your Coach belong ?? Here's where you can give kudos to those who've influenced you to achieve Top of the Mountain results or merely made a lasting impact on you. Kansas is fortunate to have alot of great one's and we are seeing results but who got us started. Such as Dan Gable of Iowa wrestling and Iowa Football- Stoops, Bill Snyder etc. In wrestling circles- let's discover the connections. Where's your TIES ?? http://www.usawks.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=002476

Coach Bill Lundy, led Salina to the State Champs in 1967, was also an Olympic alternate in 1952 or way back then in one of them. Great teacher motivator, and all around inspiration.
Coach Peterman
Now you know why the call a cross wrist in some places a Lundy.!.!.!

Is Coach Lundy still around and are there any other stories of wrestlers with local ties who have moves named after them ?

Vic Lyziack sp? was qualified for the olympics i believe but then his gf at the time got pregnant and he decided to quit and make his priorities straight, he did quite a job for the Russell Program, as did Wyatt Frohling for the Wakeeney-Trego Community program, also Bill Johnson in Norton now is very well as was Jake Durham in the day, he was one of the better ones i believe in the early days of Kansas Wrestling
any other thoughts?

Coach Lundy used to come in when I was in junior high and still kick the dog out of us. I think he was around 65 back then! He is one of the best wrestling people I've ever been around.
Another great Salina coach is Bobby Stein. He has turned out a ton of good wrestlers at the kids level.
I have also had the opportunity to coach with Wyatt at WaKeeney, and he was a great mentor. Kids respond to him like no other coach I've seen.
Mike Schauer was my high school coach at Maize, and he was as good as I've been around. He is still a very important part of Kansas wrestling as a Central Kansas Freestyle coach.
There's my $.02.

Coach Sonderegger at East got fourth in the nation when he was at Mizzou and he also beat Kenny Monday at the Big 8 championships which is sweet.

One of the best inspiration coaches ive ever wrestled under is Brook Medrano. Really knows his stuff and gets kids pumped. Kyle Robinson will also be a great coach at Trego High This year along wit Brook.
