Paola's Nathan Payne captured 1st place at 5A 160 lbs. with an exciting one point victory in the finals. Hey Nate! Don't make those matches so close, our hearts can't take it.
Turner's Nick Figge demonstrated much class, and dignity with the best example of sportsmanship I can recall seeing. With so many reports of poor sportsmanship by others, Nick's example will be what I remember most from this tournament.
Bishop Ward's Chris Glenn is simply a stud. With only two full years of wrestling under his belt, he found himself in the championship match. Glenn's mixture of athletisism and work-ethic made him a force on the mat, even amoung the big-guys.
Great job to all 3 guys. You are all champions in my eyes.

JNA, very well put. My sentiments exactly. It was great to see Nathan win, he is an excellent role model for wrestlers of all ages.

I have to admit, Turner is not my favorite team, but Nick Figge displayed incredible class and sportsmanship after his match. Nick, I know you would have probably rather had the championship, but I hope it's some consolation to know that you now stand out in the minds of many wrestlers, parents, coaches, officials and fans as an exceptional all-around athlete. It was a great match with a heartbreaking ending for you, but you stood tall and impressed everyone.

Last but not least, Bishop Ward should be proud of the representation given to them by Chris Glenn. He is a hard-working and dedicated wrestler as well as a very nice kid. (and a stud, as you said, JNA) He gave it a great shot, I'm just sorry he doesn't have another year in high school, because I know he could take it next year!!

Yeah those are some good wrestlers. 171 and 189lb weight class was stacked at state 4a, I was impressed with Glenn, and I am disappointed that weishar got hurt, or lost at that.
