There really isn't such a thing as a valid opinion/ non valid opinion. They are just that opinions. Unfortunatly Kirk a fan vote in this type of situation really wouldn't work for a few reasons. 1 is the shear number of fans per each team. I'm sure there were a good number of Abilene fans that would have voted for Ross, whereas a good number of Desoto fans who would have voted for Neil. Now you wanna talk about politics there is a good example. Honestly from all the controversy that these awards and the stupid rankings cause I see good reason to get rid of both of them but thats just me. I do however applogize to toadsmack for my overzealous remark about your "opinion" I just prefer people to accept whomever may have won the award and forego the arguement conversation will in the end serves no purpose.

Nigel, i agree. Back when i was wrestling (early 80's - coaching late 80's) we had neither and everything seemed to work just fine.

I'm sorry Coach Dewitt, by stupid I was refering to the amount of importance that people put into them, not the order in which they are done. In other words I think you do a fine job on them, I just think people get far too upset because they aren't on them, or someone they think shoudl be on there is not. I hope this clarifys.

I think you guys shuld realize that rankings and outstanding wrestle awards are 1) for fun and 2) for recognition and we all know how terrible those two things are. I don't understand why people take the opinions of others so personally. I like the fact that people come on the forum and state their opinions, valid, invalid, the same as mine, the opposite as mine, whatever, as well as when they spew crap. That is what makes this forum and makes it fun. If people didn't there wouldn't be much to read or discuss. Just because someones opinion isn't the same as yours doesn't mean they are arguing with you. They are simply trying to start a dicussion which is what his forum is for. I thought Taplin was impressive. You don't have to shoot 900 times to be aggressive. I thought the inside trip he hit on the edge was one of the sweetest I've seen in a long time. Get rid of the rankings and the OWs...great idea, then next someone will want to get rid of this forum and then next wrestling altogether... and how about fun let's just ban fun while we're at it! What a bunch of party poopers man!

I think they should do the "champion of Champions" by letting all 14 winners decide on who they think should get a special honor.
Beloit tournament is usually carried on the net as well for those interested.

Mamsawn,
I guess I failed to see where whining and complaining about everything that goes on in the wrestling community was "fun" but I guess it is American Nature to do such.
I guess in my mind I would much rather see people come on this forum and say things like "Yeah i saw a lot of good wrestling, congrats to (insert name here) on his/her award" Rather than "Wow that guy just won the award because of his name, status, etc."

I guess my opinion is that people are starting discussions and not whining and complaining. You must get some enjoyment out of it or you wouldn't be reading the forum everyday. I also have to say I too prefer positive comments. I wish you would post more of them.

Trust me I get no enjoyment out of reading on here everyday about "These rankings are bull", "How come this guy isn't ranked when he beat so and so", "This guy doesn't deserve an outstanding wrestler award because", "This ref made this call and that call even though I've never officiated so I don't know what im talking about"
Do I really need to go on? What you meant to say is that people are starting dicussions so that others can hear them whine. How does that saying go? "Walk a mile in another man's shoes"
Answer me this, are these threads in question benefiting the people who are the subject of them or are they not? If it is the latter than most likely you are whining, or complaining, and thats all you want to do. The fact that you want others to join with you just parallels the saying "Misery loves company"

I don't think anyone has said Taplin didn't deserve OW, but instead that there may have been other wrestlers who were also deserving. Taplin's inside trip was nice and the Glenwood coach shouted right as he was doing it "Watch the inside trip!", which was kinda weird. There was some great wrestling and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it (the delays and late finishes each night aside).

How about the saying that the pot is calling the kettle black.
