This one may be best suited for SichardDRayler's research skills, but who that you know of had a terrible record but still qualified for state? Before you all go writing "Prant Garker (18-16)", I remember the 'Hat having a 2-4 qualifier a few years ago.
Discuss.
p.s.--I'm guessing most people listed will have been 5a wrestlers.
Congrats, Aquinas! Great job, Hat Town! Salyer Rules!

you know i love how you guys knock 5a so much, but if you look at our losses they are to good kids. We don't just lose to a bunch of no bodys, our team traveled all over to get the best competition. who cares how much you lose during the season, it don't matter until state.

I went like 11-28 going into state my sophomore year. I beat out a really good kid at regionals who'd only lost to Justin Dyer by five at league or something. It wasn't that I was good, it was just that he looked like he'd partied a bit too hard the night before. Ha ha, sucka...

Heremy Jarland was the 2-4 qualifier, if memory serves me right. And Dingbat--you forget that I made Verdorn bleed. And I beat Jhris 4 out of 7 times. And I am undefeated against Lar Leeson, who is currently owning the offensive lines of everyone in 6A. (Way to go, Lar.)
My vote for worst state qualifier goes to Ryan Johnson, just because I know his dad is going to read this.

Fine, I'll give it to him. But hey Prant, at least this means you won something in your high school wrestling career!

Think it was back in like 2001 that the 5A regional at Turner only had three 112-pounders and one of them went to state at like 2-14 or 1-12 or something. Am I remembering that right? Also, no, that's not a 5A bash -- three guys in one weight at regionals would be a bash in whatever class it happened in.

its easy to qualify for state in 5a and 6a,there are not as many schools, less wrestlers vying for a postion to qualify for state...less matches less competition
what about 321a, western regional? norton, st. francis, hoxie, oberlin, oakley....dont think i've ever seen a slouch make it through a regional there, contrare, ive seen very good kids that got beat out, that could have easily qualified in a larger school regional and then most likely would have placed at 5a or 6a state!
..but that just the nature of the beast, its too bad that usually the best wrestlers fall all into one exceptionally tough regional...only 4 from each regional qualify, is it repesentitive of the best wrestlers in the state? no. but thats the way it is.
...just have to worker harder smarter and get tougher and better...
...not to take anything away from individuals that make to state with less than a .500 record, no matter what classification or regional they wrestle in. it is a tribute to thier effort and perserverence, because it simply comes down to, who wants it the most, and what are they willing to do to get it.

What does that have to do with finding the worst state qualifier ever? Come on tuff, stay on topic; there's no need for a lecture here.

give these guys some credit, their clutch when really matters. They probably had to beat SOMEONE with a winnning record to get in to the state tournment.
ENJOY!!!

This may or may not be mildly interesting since it is a Colorado wrestling story, but I think it's pretty cool.
There was this kid at Ponderosa in 1996 who was 8-12 going into regionals, and he had the two tournaments of his life. He had the #1 state ranked kid first round at regionals, squeaked by him, and then I guess he got it in his mind that he couldn't be beat. He kept upsetting people all the way the state finals, where he lost to another no name in the same situation, and probably the only guy in his previous 8 matches that he should have beaten.
It's all practice until regionals!
