Wichita has no middle school wrestling programs which baffles me. I'm wondering if that in the long run may play some sort of role as to why WSU doesn't add wrestling? I know wrestling and basketball are different seasons in middle school wrestling which allows athletes to explore both sports. In the long run the extra option might give a few more bodies to "depleated" lineups in many schools come high school time when athletes have to choose where to go sport wise.

Wichita and the surrounding area does have many programs for wrestling. I know there is no actual middle school league which would be nice but they do have options. I know that when i was in middle school i had to make the decision of whether i wanted to play basketball or wrestle, It would be nice if middle schoolers didnt have to make that decision.

Yea that's why I know most schools have basketball and wrestling at different times. On the bright side no middle school wrestling in the Wichita area means you can go to more National Level events and not face restrictions because of distance.

I am one that use to believe the junior high program could be done away with and use the kids wrestling federation as their outlet, but I have realized tht this would not be the best idea. Many kids in Jr High have never be given a sports opportunity and wouold not sign up for outside organization. In our small community in the Junior High program right now we have 3 kids out of 12 that have had any kids experience and only 2 of them in the past year or two.

I think Jr High wrestling is a very important feeder program for the high school. It sets the high school program up and gets kids that would normally be left out.

I agree with Scooby. In the Wichita area we have the Pioneer League (middle school), which many of the best high school wrestlers from this area have wrestled in. If you have a lack of coaches, it is the responsibility of the parents/fans, in that district, to make sure pressure is brought to bare on the AD and or elected officials to fix it. The same is true when finding or keeping qualified coaches. You must be vocal! As we know, most ADs have a ******ball background and some might be willing to let our sport wither on the vine.
