Believe it or not, I wasn't at a kids tourney today and I saw all of this and the ref's seemed to allow allot of it to slid. Am I complaining because my kid lost, no he won, but his eyes look terrible. I watched his match on tape and he was jabbed in the eyes 9 times and the ref dinged the other kid once. When did this type of wrestling start to be allowed or ignored. Please tell me that coaches aren't teaching this, because it would give a black eye to the sport.( No pun intended)

I have only one thing to say about bad sportsmanship or whatever you would like to call it. Norton won to Garden City but forfieted the last 4 weights just so Goodland wouldn`t take 1st place,to me that is not what wrestling is about it is about two wrestlers out on the mat to see who has the ability to defeat the other. To me that was childish and unsportsmanship like. People need to grow up.

From wat my uncle said(who lives in Goodland). They forfeited their 189 lb. kid cause he has a hurt shoulder but i dont know about the others. Id like to think that it isnt the only reason they forfeited their other weights, but idk.

Tell Nathan not to worry cause he aint the only one beat up, I had 2 punches get landed in my face and i was headbutted 6 times in a different match and i rebroke my nose. HaHa it was a good week.

How would forfeiting all of those weights help Goodland? I'm sure that wasn't the case as to why they forfeited...I have tons of respect for Coach Johnson at Norton and Coach Bahe at Goodland to know neither of them are weasels.

I have to ask the same questions as Swayz, and I agree with him, two very respected coaches. I'm sure Coach Johnson could enlighten you on why he this took place.

To Wrestlemom33:

The reason that we forfeited the last four weights to Garden City is the same reason we forfeited the 103 and 112 lb. weights also. We are either injuried or just plain out-classed in these weights. If wrestlemom33 was at the Hoiliday Classic than you should know that we forfeited 112 all day due to an injury, we also gave up the 171 lb. class in almost all duals. My 189 lber was hurt in the Goodland match and could not wrestle against Garden. Finally my 215 & Heavy had not won a match the whole weekend, and when I looked into their eyes I could see that putting them on the mat again was not in their best interest.
We wanted to win this dual a great deal, but considering all of the circumstances involved, sometimes you must cut your losses and rest up over the Christmas break.
Goodland is a very good team that beat us fair and square and I wish them the best. The fact that we forfeited 6 weights in the Garden Dual was my decision for two reasons: 1. To try and help the morale of my athletes, and 2. We simple did not have a body to put on the mat due to injury.
I hope that this clears things up.

Michael, I'll tell Nathan. What bother's me the most about this situation, is almost everyone tells you that you can't say anything, because the ref will hold it against your kid or your team. And what is even sadder is that this comment is true. An official is a paid employee and if he or she is not doing their job and it costs me the parent money for doctor bills than I feel the ref should be reprimanded by the KSHSAA.
I realize that we aren't playing chess here and injuries are going to occur, but when it is a direct result because an official wasn't doing his or her job that he or she is paid to do than something needs to be said and done with and to the official in question.

Broeckelman, you said previously, you watched the tape when you got home. Do something about the situation and send the tape in to KSHSAA for review. Maybe then the ref in question will be reprimanded, if he's as bad as you say.

Good idea Boogy man, I didn't think about that. I guess I expect coaches and A D's to take care of these thing's. Thanks for the idea.

Acually, probably what I meant to say was, go through the proper channels (Coach/AD) have them review it and send it in. I'm sure the coach also has a tape which the team manager could provide for review. You've jumped the ref's, I wouldn't be so quick to hop on Coaches and A D's untill they have had a chance to look at the tapes sometime after the weekend.

Your right...some people do need to grow up and stop making accusations when you know nothing of the situation..
