GARDEN CITY FINISHED FIRST , GOODLAND SECOND , NORTON THIRD. GARDEN CITY DEFEATED GOODLAND ON FRIDAY 35-31, GOODLAND DEFEATED NORTON 41-30 ON SATURDAY. AND GARDEN CITY DEFEATED NORTON SATURDAY BUT NORTON WAS WINNING THE DUAL AND FORFEITED THERE LAST THREE WRESTERS. WHICH IF NORTON BEATS GARDEN CITY GOODLAND HAS A CHANCE TO BE THE CHAMPIONS. "YOU FIGURE THAT STRATEDGY OUT?"

Norton also had a sizable lead over Goodland with four weights to wrestle. These weights just weren't very strong for Norton last weekend. Garden City has a good lineup in those weights, and the results would almost have certainly been the same even if Norton had wrestled all of those kids (one of whom I believe was injured in the dual with Goodland).

coach thanks for your response i know as a fan it looked as if norton did not want goodland to have the chance to be champs, we all know how speculations and mat side talk at tournaments sometimes gets, it was a good weekend of wrestling and congratulations to garden city, goodland, and norton.

Why would Norton care whether Goodland were champions or not? They were obviously there to win the tournament themselves. Due to injuries they were not able to do so. But I can't see a coach purposely losing just so another team doesn't get 1st place ... especially Coach Johnson.

I agree with Nigel. Norton and Goodland go back along way together. Norton being a former NW Kansas League Team with a strong tradition and some ties to that league. Norton still sits in NW Kansas and I know Coach Johnson respects Coach Bahe and his athletes enough to not do something so underhandedly, just to let Garden City, of all teams to win over Goodland. (weird man) Smaller schools always like to win over the larger ones, don't they?

Another point to consider:
Goddland beat Norton
Garden City beat Goodland
if Norton beat Garden City they should have had a shot at the title as well, since it would be a three way tie. Any one who thinks that anyone- especially Coach Johnson-would throw a dual inorder to deny another team a place doesn't know the sport of wrestling- or the mentality it takes to be as successful as Norton has been There is no doubt they did everything they could have reasonably done to win.
Heal up guys, we want to see a healthy team at the J.R. Durham when we get there!
Any fool can criticize, complain, and condemn- and most do.
