There is a new hwt over here on the MO side, Elijah Madison. Just wondered if someone could give me a little background/info on him. I see he placed 2nd at state last year as a freshman. Just curious. THanks.

Madison is very very good. He only had like 2 losses as true freshman in heavyweight. He is the real deal. I didn't know he had moved to Missouri. Can you tell us how he's doing and why he moved there?

I think he's eligible on 1/7 when Oak Park goes to the Lepic Duals in Iowa. Not sure why he (his family) moved to the Northland, but the fact he's on the #5 team in the country (who by the way needed a hwt)may have weighed into it a bit.

I was unaware of this, anyone else with any info on it. Him on any team would make a difference.

Whoa I didn't know anything either, unless this just happend. He just won the Clay Center tournament with Salina Central.
As for how good he is, His only losses in high school last year were to really good wrestlers in Michael Sprigg (Norton)who was a high school All American and is now a starter for Army, and Calib Payne who is a 2x state Champ in 5a.
Your in for a treat if you go watch him wrestle. Especially if someone is dumb enough to lock up with him.

Dang! Can we get someone to back this up or confirm the move? I think he had two wins over 6A Champion Tyler Jessen last year also! I was hoping to see a couple re-matches between those two! Someone figure this out! He is forsure the next real deal at HWT!

I talked to Coach Workman of S.Central. He moved with his father in the Oak Park area. He did not compete at the Emporia tournament.

Oh boy...sounds like it is true then. Did his dad move out that way for a job? I talked with his dad a year ago and they sounded pretty happy.

If you talk to any coach in the KC area, and they are able to be honest, it is fairly well known that they recruit athletes. It's amazing how many move in's they have. If they had to coach what they have, it might be a different deal. I'm not trying to take anything away from their coaching staff, because they do a great job, I am sure, but it smells funny.....

Aaron, I don't know any other details. I just hope that everything works out for the best. He seems like a very nice young man.

LOL!!! Why would they recruit anyone? When a team is as good as OP, they don't need to - kids want to come wrestle there. Since your so tied in with the KC area coaches, who have they told you OP has recruited? ..... just out of curiosity. Enlighten us, please. Have you heard of their little league program - the Competitors? They have produced a long list of national champion schoolboy freestyle/folkstyle and GR wrestlers. LOL........can't stop laughing........

I honestly can agree with you on that Shinedaddy that some of these schools don't need to recruit. Prep Academies though must recruit. As for the Competitors, I haven't heard of them, probably because I've never seen them at a tournament.

The "Competitors" are well known in the prep and youth wrestling circles.
They use to be a rival of the former East Kansas Champioinship club. Their coach, Randy Smith, has been instrumental in the success of a couple of high schools (Oak Park and Oak Grove) on the Missouri side.
I'm sure Swayz is not aware of this but I'm also confident he will research the question and form his own opinion.

Have you heard of their little league program - the Competitors? They have produced a long list of national champion schoolboy freestyle/folkstyle and GR wrestlers. ... The reason that any school might want Elijah Madison is that there is a pretty decent chance that he might win two to three heavyweight state championships for them. Oak Park specifically will also benefit from Elijah and Kolton Kono, their 215 pounder, being able to push each other in practice over the next three years. I am not saying that Oak Park recruited Elijah though. I would agree that Oak Park probably does not need him this year to win State although he should definitely help with that. I also agree that good wrestlers could want to attend Oak Park now for the opportunity to be on a state championship team, the wrestling competition and the coaching. For all these reasons along with that incredible Competitors feeder program, Oak Park does not need to recruit to compete for state championships in Missouri. Aaron and Randy, he is correct that the Competitors are a great club. I believe they travel to national events and their wrestlers do well at the national level. I have not seen them that often at Kansas Kids events but they have been very dominant at the local meets that they have competed at. It is a club that is feeding the Oak Park program with some very good wrestlers. I think in the next few years we might see it produce some college All Americans and champions like East Kansas did with Zach Roberson, Joe Johnson, Shawn Bunch, etc. I am sorry that Salina Central and Kansas high school wrestling that it appears that Elijah has transferred to Oak Park. He is a great wrestler who will be missed in Salina and in the Kansas wrestling community.

There was talk of Elijah attending Oak Park his freshman year as well, i know that football was important for him as well and SC coming off a state championship may have fulfilled some goals. Best of luck to Elijah, as a fan of good wrestling anywhere, it will be fun to watch his development with the strong OP team
