I am in the process of setting up a freestyle club for guys in the eastern KS area. The club will more than likely be run out of Olathe South HS. I have multiple college wrestlers who will be joining in our practices as well. All coaches feel free to get ahold of me with questions. Summer wrestling makes winter champions! Anyone interested, let me know.

Fitzer165,

The Slammer Wrestling Club will also be running a freestyle club this spring and summer. We are still focused on folkstyle but will transition to freestyle on 4 April. For Freestyle, our plan is to practice Tues at Lansing High and Thursday at Leavenworth High.

Our room gets pretty busy and we get some great athletes in over the summer. Any of your guys want to bang heads up our way are welcome. We got a group of talented kids that like heading over to Park Hill and other quality clubs. When will you practice, I am sure many of our kids would like to visit now and than if that is ok.

One thing that I know our wrestlers and coaches will need is a clinic on the new rules. It would be a good idea to try to organize something for the Metro Area.
We could ask Mark Anderson (believe he has officiated already at several national tournaments using the new FILA rules). We can get a couple of demonstrators, run through a match, and go over the rules. Follow that up with someone that has competed under the new rules and talk strategy. Do that for an hour and then finish it off with some technique and two 15 min gos. Would be a great two hours for wrestlers and coaches. Heck may be whoever is in charge of officials would want to hold the second hour for a more indebt officals clinic while the kids get some technique and wrestling?

Lansing wrestling room is a little small for the clinic. Leavenworth room is now a baseball hitting and pitching room until the summer. Travis Pipen…may be we could use Bashor’s?

Thoughts? Anyone want to host the clinic in the KC Metro Area?

Coach, that sounds great! I competed under different rules, so that would be a great way for me to get a grip on the new ones. Once I get my dates and times set I will let you know and any of your guys would be welcome. I do know that our practices will start a little later, as I attend Mckendree College in Illinois and wont be back home till the begining of May.

Conor:

Good to hear that you are giving back to the sport at such a young age. Best of luck in setting up your new club.

Could I convince you to help your dad get back on the forum? I miss my old buddy Strengthman on here. He was always pretty good at keeping me on my best behavior. Rumor is that he is getting up there in years and has forgotten his pass word. I am one who can appreciate how the advancing years can adversely effect the memory. I think he can use your help to show him the way back on here. :p

Fitz,

I'll drag my little bro up there by the ears, bring my son along with, and learn some stuff in the process

It'll be good to have you back in the area!

Mr. Nowak, thanks very much for the support. I would love to get your son in the room over the summer, he's gonna be a special one. Lee, that sounds great, is your younger brother gonna go to south?

Thank you, Conor. That is a nice thing to say about my son. He is a freshman at Aquinas and he has practiced freestyle the last two years there with Gonz Medina's club. He has only competed at one freestyle meet two years ago. His plan was to practice again with Gonz starting after Kids folkstyle at the end of March. I will encourage him to workout at your room too. I am hoping that he will maybe have more interest in competing in freestyle this year.

It is very difficult for me to believe that you are a sophomore in college. I think the first time I saw you wrestle was when you were in the sixth or seventh grade. I am pretty sure it was your first year wrestling though. I remember you throwing those kids to their backs into quick pins.

I am sure we will see you this summer and good luck in finishing your school year. And don't believe any story your dad might tell you about me.

Yes, he's in 7th grade right now. Late starter, but better late than never! My son is 5

K, back to the original purpose of this thread: Conor's freestyle club, it'll be a good one...

Bloodgood, I'll wrestle ya, no prob. I may have to use fat-power or old man strength to keep up though, and since you're calling me out, I'll use it all! Hopefully it's enough :p
It's good to have kids come back and kick my butt, as strange as that sounds. Just knowing that I had a small part in your ability to wail on me is good enough.

...CRAP, now I actually have to stay in shape in the off season so you don't make me puke ... THANKS!

Fitz, shoot me details on your club and I'll start spreading the word with kids that I know from ONW, OS, and the OS kids club. If you want to make a flyer or something to pass out I'd be happy to use my nerd-like powers (related to fat-power and old-man strength) to help. It'd be good to get it out before the kids are 'done' for the season (to the kids club). If you've got guys like Bloodgood coming up there to help out, you'll have good reasons for kids to get up to your club.
