Kansas City Wrestling Club will be hosting The Donna Woofter Memorial Novice Tournament on Feb. 11th at St. James Academy. Entry deadline is Feb 4th. Due to limited space, this tournament will have a maximum of 350 wrestlers, so be sure to get your entries in early. St.James is located in Lenexa, just west of K-7 on 95th St. Please email me at vwagh4@gmail.com with questions. We will accept entries via email, however, these must be followed by a mailed copy and check to have wrestlers bracketed. A copy of the flier has been posted on the usawks calendar of tournaments. Hope to see you all there!

Just wanted to make a clarification, as the flier states please list the exact weight of all heavy weight entries so we will bracket accordingly. We continue to reserve the right to combine brackets so everyone will get three matches, but we will make every attempt to keep the weight in the HWT brackets as close to true weight as possible.

Thanks Ginny! This tournament will grow to be a great tradition, honoring a woman that we'll never forget. Next year, I encourage the clubs in Eastern Kansas to put this one on their permanent schedule.
See you guys there!

Can you let me know a little about who this tournament is honoring. Also who is in 14u 90 lbs and are the brackets going to be combined, and with what weight if they are combined?
Tator T. Got to get up and go to make the final show!

Donna Woofter was a remarkable woman! Her husband Walt, started the Kansas City Wrestling Club at Bishop Meige about 4-5 years ago, (my husband and I help run the site at St.James) and she pretty much ran the club. She was an outstanding mother to three wonderful children, one of which still wrestles in the kids club, one who coaches the kids club and one who is currently earning her degree at K-State. Donna unexpectedly died this past summer, and she is very much missed. We honor her because of who she was and meant to all of us. If you are coming to the tournament, you will hear more......
As for the 14u 90, we had to combine 85-95, due to the lack of participation. The boys are Matt Merriman, Caleb Tomeden, Drake Jones, and Nicholas Drake. Hope that answers you questions.
We did not get the tournament on the schedule as quickly as we had hoped, so there is a smaller amount entered than we had expected, but we will have a great day! See you on Sunday.

She does sound like a great woman. We don't always hear about all the things women do for wrestling and also behind the scenes. So it is nice to see her being honored. Thanks for the quick reply on the brackets. Its much appreciated. It sounds like a fine tournament with great seating!

Directions to Saint James Academy; K10 to K7 North. Exit on 95th street(1st exit) then head West. School is about 1 mile West of K7 on 95th street. Enter the school on the Northeast corner. There is a walk way that will lead you from the parking lot to the gym area.

Attentions Coaches:
Please let your parents know that there will be a church service going on the morning of the tournament, they will be using the main entrance, so please have all athletes and parents/other family members enter at the Northeast corner of St. James. WE DO NOT WANT TO DISTURB THE SERVICE IN ANY WAY! I will be posting signs for people to enter at the appropriate entrance, but please help us out by informing your club of this. Thank you.

BCS Rating - 10.5 Sausage, Bacon, Pan Cakes, B-Gravey, Fruit - you name it they had it. LCS Rating - 10.5 Lunch we were almost done with the tournament by lunch. But, being the BCS & LCS Director I did find time to get in the Coaches & Officials Hospitality Room a couple of times to evaluate the goods and sample of few very tastey items. It is just part of my job duties. Someone has to do it.
What else can I say. Well run tournament by some neat people. Officals did a good job. The one official named Brandon outstanding up and comer in the officials rank. I did find him in the hospitality room so 105 might come a little tougher this week and good luck at regionals & the big dance in a couple of weeks. The other seasoned veteran officials came through again.

Great job Walt, Ginny and all those who helped make the tournament run smoothly! The food and facilities were top notch. Thank you to Lori Frederick for sharing some of the great memories of Donna Woofter. With all three kids there, it was a special time for all of us...

I want to thank all the great people who came to our tournament...being our first tournament, we were very nervous...but everyone; kids, parents, the great officials and all the volunteers did an outstanding job! One of the reasons why I love wrestling is because of the people who are in it. Every one of the coaches and people who run the other clubs stepped up if we needed any help. A huge thanks goes out to Lori Frederick for not only giving us great memories of Donna, but also sticking with me at the head table. Kim Huck, thank you for helping both Lori and I sane today! Sean McCarthy, you rock! Thank you for doing the weigh-ins this morning (and the great rating!). The high school wrestlers from St. James and SME worked very hard, and we thank you. You all are terrific young men. I truly appreciate all the parents and open wrestlers from KCWC who came out today and worked extremely hard. We definitely could not have had such a great tournament without you all!
Lastly, I would like to thank all of the kids who came to wrestle today. We had quite a few obsticles to overcome, mainly the scratches, but you all were so easy going about it. I know some of you only had two matches in your bracket, but hopefully you were able to have an exhibition match or two as well, after all, it's about mat time right?
We will be having another Novice tournament next year, may even throw an Open in too. Hope all had as much fun as we did.

Also I want to thank the Medina brothers for all their help in putting this tournament together. Thanks to you both for listening to me go crazy and for helping get everything we needed. Looking forward to our Freestyle tournament in April.

I also thought I would throw in a Big Thanks to Good Old Gunner (you are not forgotten) for going to get the Brackets. Additionally, the Lenexa Fire Department did an outstanding job when needed very early in the day.

We will not be able to post the results from the tournament, someone accidentily threw away all the bout sheets, (also other very important info.) I apologize for this inconvenience.
Also, can anyone tell me who the family was that had their car catch on fire. I would like to get in contact with them to find out how they are? Please email any information to vwagh4@gmail.com. Thanks!
