I know this is the Kansas wrestling site, but I just wanted to let all the teams from Kansas about how bad of an expierence we had at this tournament. We arrived at this tournament at 9:45am, because I knew my son would not be wrestling right away, I had no idea it would be 5 hours later that he would finally get to wrestle his first match and we had to wait another 3 hours for him to get close to wrestling his 2nd and final match only for the people running the mats to say we are stopping all matches on this mat until we get all of these brackets straightened out. Needless to say I was not about to stick around another hour or so for them to straighten out their mess. Yes, I am a bad mother I made my son scratch his last match and take second, I know he really wanted to wreslte, but I had all I could stand of that place. I just do not understand why these tournaments take so long, even when they have alot of scraches, he started off with 7 kids in his bracket and ended up with just 4. Believe me I will not be back. The sad thing about this is that for the past two years it was a really good tournament.

I was just wondering how may others had this same bad experience there.

yme,

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. My family had a great experience there though. We had a couple of scratches in our son's 8 man bracket but he still got to wrestle three matches thru the final and we were done just before 3 PM.
My son won all three matches taking first and that always helps your outlook towards a tournament. We had about a 2.5 hour wait between his 2nd and last match. We went into downtown Parkville which is a neat place to visit and had lunch there. There is a topic in the Missouri chatroom which you can get to from our links section to the left on this subject. About 5 people (including myself and Iowa Fan) have posted on it, if you are interested in seeing some other comments on this. One other person on that Missouri forum also did not have a good day there but most of the other remarks have been positive.

I have already been to that site and also posted my feelings on this experiance. I wish that we could have been on your mat or Iowa Fans mat and wrestled, but unfortanetly we where not. We had to wait and wait and wait for one match. My son would have wrestled twice if I had stuck around another hour or so, but I did not, by my choice not his. I would have liked to seen him wrestle more than one match, I believe to get better you need more mat time, but even so he would have only wrestled twice. Like I said before, this in the past has been a good tournament for us, this was our 3rd year there. But I do not believe we will go back. It was a waste of a day. At least somebody got two wreslte more than once.

Our club attended this tournament because of the Turner tournament being canceled. I was not able to attend since I coach at Schlagle High School. But I think the Asst. Coaches all agree that we should never attend a poorly run Missouri. I sat and listened for an hour about how the tournament was designed, bracketing, how they had 3 brackets of the same age and weight, matches being stopped, and other things. One good thing that the coaches liked over your normal Kansas tournament was the officals. They said that the officals allowed the kids to wrestle and no try to over call the match and they hit kids for stalling (which never happens on this side of the state line). Those are just some of the views that was expressed to me via coaches and parents of my club.

We did not attend the Missouri tournament, but I don't think it has anything to do with it being Missouri. We have experienced the same problem MANY of times in Kansas. I think the only thing we can do is not go back to a tournament that was so poorly ran.
We went to Wamego and it was pretty good.

My only complaint about this tournament was that the facility was too small for the number of wrestlers that attended. There were so many people standing at matside but honestly, if they were to try to sit down in the stands they would of had to sit on people's laps. Not to mention how HOT it was in the stands. I kept hoping that the doors would stay open but as soon as they were opened they were quickly shut.

But on a positive note, I thought that there was good competition and frankly this tournament ended at a decent hour.
