I know folkstyle state is just around the corner, but while this website is still busy I just wanted to write a quick note to let every wrestler born 93 or 94 and their families know that I have been appointed the Schoolboy director for Team Kansas for the Freestyle and Greco duels June 6-10 in Indianapolis, IN. Please email me at mike_pursel@danka.com with any questions or to let me know of your interest and we can talk in detail.
To qualify you must be born in 93-94 and have a desire start building the foundation to get you to the next level of wrestling and hopefully have the ability to compete at a high level. The National SchoolBoy Freestyle/Greco duals are June 6-10 in Indianapolis, IN, and offer a great opportunity to represent your state on a national level, get some great extra coaching and mat time, and start getting yourself ready for high school wrestling. It also shows you what it’s like to be a part of a team pulling for a common goal just like high school. It will be one of the most fun experiences you have ever had in wrestling. If we have more that one kid per weight (which I hope we do) we will do our best to get everyone alot of matches. If there is a case where we have too many kids per weight we can use the state FS/GR tournament as an indicator of kids abilities. We should have a very good team this year.
Look at the top kids that have placed or won high school state as freshmen and sophomores. Almost all of them are past members of the Kansas Schoolboy team. If you want to give yourself the best chance to place or win state in your first years of high school, the Kansas Schoolboy team gives you a great leg up. Just like it did for these current high school stars.
Atticus Disney,Nathan Furches, CJ Napier, The Koehn Boys, Kyle Detmer, Romero Cotton, Steve Andrus, Sharky Slyter, Aaron Ely, The Edison Boys, Donnie Altman, Tyler Caldwell, Aldon Eisenburg, Sean Flynn, Neil Erisman (I am sure I am forgetting many more).
In addition look at the recent grads that FS/GR has helped to get them college scholarships like Danny Grater, Joe Cornejo, Ross Taplin, Erisman, Altman, Flynn, Edison and many others I am again forgetting. Sure it’s possible to compete only in folkstyle and get to the next level, but it’s very clear that wrestling Freestyle and Greco greatly increase your chances and gives you national visibility.
The 2007 National Schoolboy duals give you the opportunity to wrestle up to 15 or more matches in 4 days! It’s a great learning experience and a lot of fun. Please contact me with any interest, and I will be contacting as many of you as I can. If you know any other wrestlers born in 93-94 that are interested have them contact me as well. I will be at many of the upcoming tournaments and will see you there.
Good luck in all your wrestling, and let’s make the 2007 Kansas National Schoolboy team one of the best and make some noise this summer.
24/7 Mike Pursel

Here are the initial names that have responded. Team Kansas is starting to shape up pretty tough. We need bigger kids however bad. Keep the interest coming. Again if we have too many kids at a specific weight we will use the KS state FS/GR tournament as help with the selection process. Some kids might grow so alot can change. If you have contacted me and I do not have you listed please re-email me. Anyone know how to get ahold of Jarin Brown of Concordia? He would be great in one of the upper weights if he was born in 93-94.
Thanks for the interest. Mike

Here is an updates list of kids who have shown interest.
It looks like around 95 pounds we might have to have wrestle offs at the state FS/GR tournament but yet we still need several kids above 150. We can take something like 23 kids for 18 weights.
70 Austin Hood/Zac Gentzler 75 Tommy Williams 80 85 Bo Pursel/Zach Vesta 90 Dane Norris/Zach Vesta 95 Colton Eck/Hunter Stalford/Ben Thoman 100 Colton Eck/Ben Thoman 105 Dylan Penka/Jesse Lemay 110 Symon Seaton 115 Spencer Blew 120 Sam Son/Conner Middleton ? 125 Reece Conklin ? 130 Chase Sanchez 145 Tyler Baughman/Jared McComb 165 Jared McComb 185 205 Jordan Brown?? 225 250

It was announced several times at the state tournament and I am posting on here as well, that we will use the Manhattan FS/GR as the qualifier/tie breaker for the Schoolboy team in June. We have several weights that we have multiple kids interested. That is great. We want to take the most competitive team possible, so start sharpening your skills and be ready for Manhattan! It will serve as the primary wrestle off for the team. We can only take a limited amount of backups. Good luck and let's wreslte.
If for some extreme reason you cannot make it to Manhattan please email me and in a very rare case we will make an allowance to wrestle off at another tournament. But for the most part I need everyone interested to plan on wrestling at the Manhattan FS tournament May 12.
We will have an info meeting at Manhattan with complete details to cost (Est.$225), rules for behavior, etc.
Great job to all at kids state!!! And Oh, we still need wrestlers for 185, 205, 225, 250. Thanks Mike Pursel mike_pursel@danka.com

I am excited about all the interest. Please make sure and come to the qualifier May 12 in Manhattan! In the middle weights we have 4-6 kids in some cases wanting to go, and we can only take one per weight plus a total of 6 or so backups. The backups must be able/willing to wrestle a couple weights so we can move kids around and keep them fresh. This will ensure everyone that goes get several matches as well. See you in Manhattan.

FYI-In Manhattan we will wrestle FS first and that will be the qualifier for SB duals. Greco will be wrestled later, but the team will be determined off the FS portion.
See you there, Mike Pursel
