Are you people crazy? I agree with Cokeley in the fact that this tournament should be held weeks ago. We have people worried that they have to make weight on Fri and then again on Sunday and have to drive from all over. This is 6 yr olds people!! They have 10-12 years left to prove themselves in the wrestling world. Our club started our novice wrestlers in Dec. and 95% of their seasons were over at the end of Jan. A 6-8 week season is long enough for kids that are 5-6.
Have the 6 year old tournament in early Feb. and be done with it!
Make it the week before Liberty. This is a great idea, the season is too long for 6U and the wrestlers (and parents) can then focus on Liberty, Wichita and Hays and then districts or be done earlier in the season.
Can someone in an official capacity tell us whether the District weigh-in counts for the 6-U? I'm not concerned with the various issues being debated, but just want to know if we need to hussle to Ottawa. My son is consistently 1.5# under, but I dont want to have to worry about some odd water weight gain or some other reason he might spike by Sunday morning.
Yes they will count! The tourney director sent me an e-mail! you could call or email yourself for reassurance! Her contact info is on the flyer and calander section!

I have been reading this forum for a couple of years now. I have never had a problem reading and laughing about some of the topics that are discussed here, but now I do. I agree that the 6-U season is long. I do not agree that it needs to be held anywhere other than Ottawa. They have been providing us with a 6-U state for years now. Until the state steps in and holds a state championship for these kids we should leave it up to Ottawa to continue holding this tournament without someone wanting to move it to another part of the state. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK OTTAWA and don't let anyone try to take what you started.
I don't understand why everyone wants to dictate what the 6 and under season should be for everyone. If some parents don't like the length on the season all they have to do is not sign up for tournaments. My son would be disapointed if we had to go to tournaments the remainder of the year for our older child and he didn't get to wrestle. I believe the benefit to kids wrestling is that you can wrestle as little or as much as you want to. There is no one out there making the 6 and unders wrestle at every tournament if they don't want to. Let the individual parent decide what is right for the own children.
Anyone needing clarification as to the way we are handling the weigh-ins and District tournament please call me personally or shoot me an e-mail...info is on the flyer.
