I think you should look at the numbers again. Lawrence had the largest girls tournament in the state of Kansas in 2004, Derby was the next closest. Both tournaments had a good turnout. Ark City, Derby, Rose Hill, Atchison and Lawrence have annual tournaments for girls.
The Girls Midwest Regional Wrestling Championships was and will continue to be USA Sanctioned and had our date set before the other tournament. But yes due to lack of communication, girls did not know they had a choice. There are enough girls in Kansas to justify girls bracketing, if their parents will make the commitment to take them to those tournaments. And wrestling clubs and coaches will make the commitment to tell the girl wrestlers where they can go. (the tournament directors will provide coaches to a girl wrestler who does not have a coach).
Lack of communication is the problem, but we are all working on that.
