I do know of one very good wrestler who it does not look like can make it to Manhattan. If there are cases with very good reason that you cannot make it to Manhattan but are a proven national wrestler, I will take that on a "one off" basis. You need to call me or email me before the tournament however. There should only be maybe one or two. Those kids will come to the camp and wrestle the Manhattan winners there. There should be plenty of wrestling for all who attend. I am just trying to field the most competitive team possible, and get quality wrestling exposure for Kansas kids. Thanks and see you in Manhattan.

Looks like we still need kids at 80, 165, 185 and 205. (We did get two good kids for 225 and 250). We have people interested in all other weights. (Several in some). Everyone intersested in all weights please make every attempt to come to Manhattan or call me 913/207-1056 with your valid reason you cannot. I realize it is a busy time, and we want to give opportunities to as many as we can yet still field the toughest team possible. We have never had a qualifier before so we are trying to learn as we go. I do have 2 cases where very accomplished national level kids (Symon Seaton 110 and Spencer Blew 120)are out of town and cannot make it to Manhattan. I am sure everyone who knows those two can attest they are two of the best schoolboys anywhere competing very well with the nations best. Those two kids will be invited to the camp and will wrestle the Manhattan winner to determine the starter at that weight. Win or lose the Manhattan winner at those weights as well as Symon and Spencer will have a place on the team.I am confident we can will get 10-16 matches for the starters and 5-8 matches for the backups maybe more. I look forward to seeing alot of schoolboys at Manhattan.

FYI-For the Schoolboy wrestling, we are going to group kids anyway for matches, so kids just need to come what they weigh naturally and wrestle. They need to be close enough so we know they can get to what they declare for the schoolboy team, but I don't want kids cutting now. Eat, get big, and have fun. The wrestling will take care of itself. As a general rule you should not show up weighing more that 3 pounds over the weight you intent on wrestling for the duals or I would rather you just go up.

I think if this is being used a a qualifier to make the national team, everyone wrestling should be required to make the weight they want to wrestle at. Especially at the upper weigts.
With th wieght classes going from 130-145-165-185.
Your saying a kid wanting to wrestle at 145 could show up at Manhattan weighing 155 and say they will make weight. That would be unfair to the natural 145lb kids. The same thing hold true for 130, 165, 185. Make the kids make weight and keep everything fair.

I respectfully disagree with Rassler. These boys have spent up to 6 months training and cutting, many every weekend. They associate wrestling with cutting and training. Let them relax and have fun, not worrying about weight. If a wrestler has a weight deficiency against another who is expected to cut for the team, Mike Pursel will undoubtably take that into consideration. While a guide for the team, Mike said the tournament is not an absolute guide, just a good place to see the kids go against each other and provide a benchmark on their abilities. I think cutting and training is a primary reason why many don't wrestle in the spring, which can be done parttime.

Rassler-if you read above you will see I said, come within about 3 pounds. I believe that is fair.

I need the contact info for Frankie Zachar who wrestled 95 Schoolboy in Manhattan. Please email me at mike_pursel@danka.com or call me 913/207-1056.

I also need the information for Karmen Gruber to talk with them about more about the team.

Thanks,

Here is the Kansas Schoolboy team for 2007...In 100-110 kids will be moving around some to get the most competitive and to get the most matches.

Thanks to all who tried out.

75 Tommy Williams
80 Dylan McKinney
85 Bo Pursel
90 Dane Norris, Gavin Ochs
95 Frankie Zachar, Hunter Stalford
100 Colton Eck, Ben Thoman
105 Dylan Penka, Brandon Charbonneau
110 Symon Seaton, Ulysses Deshazer
115 Chase Woofter
120 Spencer Blew

165 Jared McComb ?
185 Evan Habluetzel, Darrien Willis
205 One of the 185 kids wreslting up
225 Eric Mason

I still need to verify a few kids so things could change some but this is how is looks as of know. I chose to take the max number of kids and get everyone as much experience as possible and hopefully keep kids healthy for the whole week. I will be calling everyone this week to wrap up details.

Thanks, Mike Pursel 24/7
