I think Rick Bowden has been negotiating with several farmers in eastern Kansas to see if their barns are available to host the 6A tournament since no school seems to be willing to take it on

The Cokeley barn would be good. It would have to be a 7 day event and the bathroom lines would be long, but water out of the hose would be free!

I could not find the date for the census but I was able to locate last years information...
2006 Census Taken 9/20/2006 2006 Clasifications Released 9/26-2006
I would imagine that we are atleast a few weeks away from them being released

Any ideas were it will be? KSHSAA has not posted a site yet. A preliminary agreement has been reached to hold the KSHSAA 6A State Wrestling Tournament at Koch Arena on the campus of Wichita State University.

A preliminary agreement has been reached to hold the KSHSAA 6A State Wrestling Tournament at Koch Arena on the campus of Wichita State University. Charles Koch Arena is a 10,478-seat multi-purpose arena on the campus of Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas. The arena re-opened in 2003 as a reconstruction of the school's former basketball facility, known as "The Roundhouse" but formally named Henry Levitt Arena; the old arena concourse was completely demolished and a new one built around the original playing/seating area. A portion of the seating bowl was remodeled to make for more legroom. All new seating was installed as well as a video scoreboard, and virtually every surface that was not renovated was given a fresh coat of paint. It is home to the Wichita State Shockers men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball teams.

Looks like I'll actually make it down this year. Koch Arena, WOW! This facility is 100x the improvement from the Coliseum. Is this strictly 6A? If so, I'm curious to see if the 4A & 5A guys come crying back.

I agree, an opportunity to also show a D-1 University of the potential for wrestling on a college level. I think that we should start working now to pack it out, at that point, WSU would be hard pressed to use a numbers argument.
Thanks Richard for posting this.

A little clarification is in order - Hutchinson will host either the 5A or 6A KSHSAA State Wrestling Tournament depending on their classification after the September 20 release date.
Koch Arena at Wichita State University will be the site for the other tournament.

That would be very disappointing if 6a is held at Hutchinson. A big letdown from the possibility of Koch Arena back to a high school. Don't we consider home mat advantage in wrestling?

I would guess that Blue Valley High School will come in above Hutch in enrollment and 6A will be at WSU.

LancerLou, So it's OK for 5a state to be at Hutch but not 6A? Hutch is a dang nice facility but it still has that "high school" stigma regardless of which class it's in. Koch arena should be big enough for both 5a and 6a. Why would we not push to have them both at Koch?

I don't know if Koch could handle 6 mats. Remember, it like most of the other large facilities in this state was built to be a ******ball court.

If I were at a 5a school, I wouldn't like having state at a high school, either. But, I have not seen much discussion or complaining from the 5a folks about having their state tournament at Hutch, so I have to assume they are ok with it. It has been the 6a wrestlers and fans who have been pushing to avoid the "high school stigma" for their state tournament.
