Regardless of how good someone is as a debater, the only way a wrestler can get seeded at regional with a losing record is to have a win or wins over seedable wrestler(s).
That said, some coaches are better at connecting dots--that is, who beat who that beat so and so that gives my kid an edge over someone where we have no common opponent. In that regards, Kirk Baker and Bill Johnson are the best I have witnessed.
With the teams those two coaches have had over the years it was probably in the best interest of the opposing coaches that even their lower tier wrestlers got seeded. I wouldn't have wanted them drawn in as my kid's first round matchup. Any given Saturday when you practice with the kids they did.
