I heard there were some incidents that took place at Gardner involving some coaches and wrestlers being ejected. Does anyone know anything about this?

It happened around 1:30, and I beieve it was the Parsons Club. I saw a Parsons Kid(12U 76 mat7) getting beat pretty bad when the other kid from Trailhands took him down and and slammed his face into the mat. I guess the Parsons coach(dad) and his mom both were out on the mat in the refs face. I heard that all three got thrown out of the tournament. But I'm not sure about that cause I saw him 10 minutes later in the refs face on another match(mat8)saying,"Go ahead throw me out, hell throw us all out of here."

Does anyone know what was up on mat #3 when that kid fom Balwin threw his headgear across two other mats in the first period of his match. He then stomped around for awhile. The older short ref with glasses didn't even do a thing. He should have been ejected immediately in my opinion. If it had been my kid I would have yanked him off the mat.

I saw that. He was wrestling against one of our kids. I asked our kid what happened and he said that he was just mad because he was getting beat. Wow.
Saw a kid today (in lawrence) get an unsportsmanlike conduct call against him and 1 point was awarded to the other wrestler and he lost the match by one point. I hope he learned his lesson with that.

We at Baldwin do not condone this kind of behavior as all should know. We want all of our kids to have good sportsmanship at all times. I was not at the meet Saturday due to an injury, but rest asurred that there will be a consquence for this childs actions.

Regarding the headgear incident in Gardner it was not a Baldwin kid. I saw the incident, although it was a child wearing purple, I know it wasn't a Baldwin kid. I remember seeing the headgear fly clear over to mat 6 and the kid throw himself down and argue with his coach. I'm not sure of the team so I'm not committing without being 100% sure.

Thank-you for clearing up this matter! I've been trying to reach you to check on it. I was really having a hard time believing it! I have been so impressed with our kids and their sportsmanship this season.
Thank-you Coach Potter

My apologies to the Baldwin program. I was in the top of the stands and made an assumption based on the purple singlet and the coach in a yellow shirt. My assumption has made an butt out of myself.
Hooray for your similar views on the matter!

Is it true the persons ejected will have to serve the 8 day barring from USAW events? Who will enforce penalty?

If person or persons from the Parsons Wrestling Club were ejected from the tournament at Gardner, this is the action that is suppose to be taken:

B. The ejected person’s name will be placed on the Kansas Wrestling website (www.usawks.com). In the event the ejected person is a minor, only his/her age division, weight class and club affiliation will be posted on the website.

2. Cause – Cause of additional disciplinary proceedings and/or disciplinary actions can result from one or any combination of, but limited to any of the following violations:

A. Any action that tends to injure the good name of, disturb the well being of, or hamper the work of; USA Wrestling, USAW-Kansas or its divisions, chartered club, competitive member, affiliate member, official, coach, table worker, or spectator.

B. Flagrant and/or repeated destruction of personal and/or public property.

C. Falsification of documents regarding wrestling.

Wasnt there, but I heard from the president of our club that on a 14 and under mat a coach from a lawrence club threw his hat and went on to spit on the ref. Later the kid said something to the ref using the F word.
Like I said I wasnt there, this is information I got from our club president.

Thanks for the info, Old Timer. I looked to see if the person's name was listed and I could not find it anywhere. Maybe it hasn't been turned into Mr. Juby yet. Anyway, I hate to see this type of behavior. If my son were to ever act in such a disrespectful manner, it would be the last time he did. To that end, it is even more disappointing to see coaches lose their control ... in front of their wrestlers. It's a shame some parents choose to ignore or promote this type of behavior. I have seen a lot in the 4 years my family has been involved with wrestling. Kudos to all of the coaches and parents out there who are teaching our children the importance of sportsmanship and respect. I truly believe this type of behavior will be rewarded in the end.

My name is Mitch Kopriva and I am one of the coaches for Spring Hill Kids Wrestling. I would like to offer my apologies to the Gardner Wrestling Club, and especially to the Baldwin Wrestling Club, for the behavior our young wrestler exhibited during the Gardner tournament.
It was a Spring Hill wrestler that saw the need to throw his headgear across three mats, not a Baldwin wrestler. Although I was not coaching him at the time, I do find it my responsibility to correct any undue criticism directed at a fine wrestling club like Baldwin. We have taken steps , at this evenings practice, to ensure this type of behavior WILL NOT be exhibited in the future from any Spring Hill wrestler. I will not make any excuses nor shy away from any blame. I can only offer my sincere apology to all parties on behalf of the Spring Hill Wrestling Club

I know the young man who threw the head gear at the Gardner Edgerton tournament. He is a good boy and has never done anything of the sort before, nor has anyone in our club. Our head coach got on the team about this first thing at practice tonight, and feels horrible about the situation. It totally caught him off guard when it happened, and admits he should have pulled the boy out of the match. He is a great coach & the kids think the world of him, as do the parents. I will stand behind him & all of our coaches any day. He teaches our kids respect, and I want everyone to know that this was an isolated incident. Overall, the tournament was not a pleasant one. We lost one of our wrestlers early after he fractured his wrist, then the mentioned head gear throwing, & not many wrestled to their potential. Please do not look down on our club or coaches, for we are all taking this matter very seriously.

Shonda Burger

PS - He DID have a point taken from him due to his actions.

I commend Spring Hill Wrestling Club for their efforts in teaching the kids sportsmanship, respect, and integrity. It is a shame that not all clubs and coaches are this way.
I think that the original point of this post was the conduct of the individuals from the Parsons Wrestling Club who had been ejected (?) from the tournament for their actions. In this instance, it is difficult to correct a kid for his behavior when the coach and mother are setting bad examples.

I recieved an email from a parent or coach I guess that saw my eariler post and they said,

The coach did say something and threw his hat onto the mat, later in the match the kid said something to the affect of that's bullcrap about the way the ref had called the match.

Well, I should have probably kept my mouth out of things in the first place, but I was just saying what I heard.

Coach Kopriva keep up the great work! Spring Hill is a good club and sometimes these things happen. I truly believe wrestling prepares our children for life. Thanks to coaches like yourself, our children are on their way to become responsible, respectful and courteous adults.

On a side note, Coach, I enjoy watching your son wrestle. He is very good!

I know that the Parsons Club is a very good club and they do teach their members good sportsmanship. And as far as putting the whole club down is not fair to the other children that did well and showed good sportsmanship.
