Thanks for the new basketball terms; I will surely use those. You're right about the fact that we need more former wrestlers to become refs. That is the long-term solution. But, coming up through federation is a tough way to go. They should probably just start with middle-school reffing or jv tourneys. There are so many outrageous people in the federation world that the guys that could be good HS refs might just hang it up. It's not worth that much money anyway. We all probably have examples, but one that I can't get out of my head is from a fed tournament a couple weeks ago. A guy from my college team (who is also a head HS coach) was reffing a match, and a wrestler locked hands briefly. Now, the ref surely knows what locked-hands is and made the correct call. But, a coach on the side goes, "We haven't locked hands in 2 years!" Well, the streak is over.
