INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 29) – Defending national champion Central Oklahoma pushed six individuals in to the finals and had a comfortable lead in the team race at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional here Saturday afternoon.
Advancing to the finals for the Bronchos were 133 Tim Elliott, 141 Kyle Evans, 149 Colby Robinson, 184 Heath Jolley, 197 Jarrett Edison and heavyweight Dustin Finn, while 165 Jason Leavitt and 174 Daniel Morrison were still alive in the consolations.
UCO, looking for its third straight regional title and the 18th in 19 years, had 106.5 points for a 20-point lead over second-place Ashland. Findlay was third in the nine-team tournament with 72.5 points, followed by Wisconsin-Parkside (70) and host Indianapolis (69).
The consolation and championship finals are set for a 3:30 p.m. (Oklahoma time) start and will be audio webcast live on UCO’s athletic website.
The top-four finishers at each weight qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships, set for March 14-15 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Elliott, seeded second here and rated sixth nationally, moved into the finals with a pair of falls in a weight that features three wrestlers ranked in the top six. He pinned No. 2 seed and fourth-rated Craig DeGreef of Wisconsin-Parkside in the semifinals and will have second-ranked Shane Perkey of Indianapolis in the championship bout.
Edison posted 18-6 and 11-1 major decisions to make the finals against third-ranked Josh Ohl of Ashland.
